Go on – take this math quiz. I dare you.
Ow – my head…
Go on – take this math quiz. I dare you.
Ow – my head…
Nah, it wasn’t that bad. Really.
Have you tried the science ones, oh Miss Smartypants?
No, I haven’t. I’m here doing real science.
Besides, I have a reputation to maintain, as the official Londope Science Goddess.
But they are very silly
I did better than I expected to.
Remember to write your answers down in your copybook, children.
loved that programme
So you already knew that “SCIENCE stands for Super-Corroborative Information on Everything and Nothing in the Cosmos and Earth”?
It’s amazing what you learn on the Internet.
Yup. I’m looking at the Cosmos currently. I did bit on the Earth as an undergrad, specifically geology and geophysics, and I found that it really rocked.
Sorry! I couldn’t resist. I’ll sit quietly in the corner next week, and not make bad puns. Promise.
I got the right answer to the Niligon question.
If you’re feeling discouraged, try the Ghosts Quiz. It’s much easier, although I admit I couldn’t answer #9. (Hint: The requirements for holding public office in the U.K. are apparently different from those in the U.S.)
That’s hardly what I’d call a math quiz.
Those are more like riddles.
Some questions are worded improperly:
"Both towers are taller than each other by roughly 54 feet " HUH ??
Just pouring a little rain on the alleged “math quiz” parade.
:dubious:
Uh, yeah, I don’t get it. A bunch of nonsensical, unsolvable math “problems.” This is supposed to be amusing? Is a UK reference a Yank wouldn’t get? Or do people who don’t know any math find this kind of thing funny? “I find math problems incomprehensible! These math problems are incomprehensible even to people who know math! Ha ha! Ha-ha! Ha!”
As you may have guessed by now, the quizzes on that site are not even remotely serious.
Rather, they’re from a BBC show called Look Around You, which spoofs those wonderful '70’s educational films you might have seen in school. Here are some clips from the segments on music and germs [requires RealPlayer].
If you still don’t find any of it funny, well… <shrug>
Er…the questions are mostly unintelligible and I don’t get many of the answers- British inside jokes?
Now I realize why we kicked you guys out.
<ahem>
FTR, I’m one of “those guys”, and I started the damn thread.
Yes, but, to be fair - you came back.
Exactly the point. You think we could have tolerated 225 years of absurd math riddles which you people seem to find funny?
Well, we do have a warped and twisted sense of humour - we gave you Monty Python after all.
