Herge: most revies are negative, rotten tomatoes has it at 36% positive. But it’s not total crap, it’s just that they made it for a very small section of the population. It’s a cult film that got to big.
Just one question: was the leaked “plot” accurate?
Eh, I think that the original Matrix and the later films are different. I haven’t seen Revolutions, but…
There’s a lot less room for intrigue once it’s already established what the Matrix is. Sure, little additions can be made (programs) and questions can be answered (the true nature of the One), but all you’ve really got left is beating people up.
What? Are you seriously suggesting that the Matrix series has been popular because people are going, “Oh, this fella is kind of a techno-Jesus”?
Matrixheads note and discuss the “Christological symbolism” in the films. Everyone else notes that Neo is a hero who happens to cheat death.
Revolutions is absolutely the worst movie since Pearl Harbor.
I felt the same way at the end as I did at the end of the second film, except I know there isn’t a fourth one to actually wrap up the damn story.
My main problem with the film:
They spent so much time in the second film with all this philosophy - there were other saviors, there were other Zions, Neo can choose a select number of people to start over with, is the real world actually just another matrix?, etc. And then we come into this movie and all of that is largely ignored in favor of “we’ve gotta fight this war”. If it was all going to be ignored in this film, why did you make us sit through it in the last one?
And just because the sentinels stopped attacking for 5 seconds, why was everyone so sure that the war was actually over?
There may be explanations I’m not seeing here, but I can’t imagine what they are. Overall, I’m not pissed that I saw it. It was entertaining as a sci-fi war movie. It looked good, overall. It just didn’t feel at all like the first movie, which was pretty much the reason why we were all in the theater in the first place. And that end sequence was cheesy as hell.
Sad to see the series devolve into a boring rehash of action movie cliches, particularly in the fight for Zion in Revolutions. I found myself rooting for the machines to put a merciful end to all those tedious, one-dimensional characters.
