Mauro Ranallo, the Bipolar Rock and Roller [mental health]

He’s got a special tonight on Showtime about his struggles with mental illness. If you or someone you know struggles with bipolar disorder, mania and/or depression, you owe it to yourself to watch it if you can.

If you don’t have access to Showtime, listen to the first third of this podcast;

It’s a wrestling podcast and the remainder of it is about wrestling, but Mauro is on the first third of this and you may recognize yourself or others in what he talks about. I saw a lot of myself in this and it touched me deeply to hear him voicing some of the same concerns, the same life limiting thoughts that I’ve had through my life.

A powerful testimony about ending the stigma of mental illness.

Thanks! Though I can’t imagine him being anywhere close to the only bipolar rock & roller. There are probably a lot.

That was tough. Funny innit? How you can listen to the mania descriptions and very clinically recognize and acknowledge and tick off little boxes or whatever and everything’s cool. But all it takes is one reference to the lows, not even an attempt to describe it, just “I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.” And then just the memory of the low can crush you. Or maybe that’s just me.

Thank you!

That was a quite powerful documentary.

The films of his mania, especially in his earlier ages are, well, frightening. The only time I came anywhere near that level was before puberty, and never never that… manic.

The guy is a damned American hero for putting himself out there, showing his life, his struggles and what he has accomplished. For being such a high profile advocate for removing the stigma of mental illness.
