It’s usually on weekends, and is syndicated. Think “Jackass” meets the Darwin Awards, except they are real videotapes, usually of people doing really stupid things, and the narrarator makes fun of the people in the tapes.
This week’s episode was their “Stupid Morons” episode, and I was laughing so hard I had to get off of my Gazelle and stop working out.
For instance, there was these rednecks on some sort of a basket that was being pulled up into a tree, and then swung back and forth like a pirate ship. Well, finally, it hit the ground, and one of the riders went flying like 20 feet.
The guy who built the contraption was being interviewed and was wearing a cowboy hat that said “5.9” on it and the producers put up a graphic asking “Is this his IQ?”.
Or there was another tape of some drunk who tried jumping from one car to another- on a highway going 60 mph, and of course, the next thing you saw were legs flying in the air.
Last week was an animals episode. The show seems really stupid at first, but as it goes on, you are bound to start howling with laffter!
MaxEx rocks. I love the video where the two cops have a guy pulled over on an overpass. The guy thinks he can get away by jumping off the overpass, which is about 12 feet high, and goes for it. One of the cops goes after him and jumps, realizes his mistake and hangs on to the concrete wall while his partner pulls him up. The guy ends up not getting very far. He broke both his legs in the jump.
Around here, MaxX airs just after X-Files on Sundays. Originally, I couldn’t stand the narrator “dude,” but he grows on you. It’s been getting funnier and funnier as X-Files has slid farther and farther down into suckitude. It was a sad day when I realized that I enjoyed that day’s MaxX much more than I did X-Files.
How about the episode where a boat capsized and this poor dog was desperately trying to swim to safety? The helicopter rescues the woman, than the man, then the dog. The announcer explains:
“FIRST CHILDREN, THEN WOMEN, THE DUDES, THEN DOGS, THEN CATS, THEN MIMES!”
My favorite episode was on the one about fires and explosions. I was like, wow, this is the greatest show ever. I was laughing like crazy the whole time.
They showed a fire at a rocket fuel depot in the desert somewhere. Not only was there several tremendous explosions, there was a frickin shockwave that ripped across the desert when the place finally blew up.
This is what trash TV SHOULD be–not stupid reality shows.
I don’t know what it is about that show, but it definitely grows on you. I’ve found myself oddly fascinated by it, and this weeks show was no exception- you had Tammy the hurricane babe, the killer tornadoes, and my personal favorite, the rockslide in Romania.
As the show goes to commercial, they show an upcoming segment where all hell is breaking loose with rocks and debris flying everywhere. The voice over guy, “And coming up, it’s Romania, where even the rocks want out.”.
When they came back you see a couple sprinting away from the falling rocks. The voice over guy again, “These people are running for their lives. Then again, this is Romania- people run for their lives everyday- rockslides just make them run a bit faster. Just listen to that rumbling. It’s like soviet tanks rumbling down mainski street all over again.”.
I watched this show a while ago and it wasn’t that good. I started watching again last week and it is WAY better. The writing is smarter and at the same time more ironic.
From todays show I was rolling on the ground laughing when they kept showing the babe in a hurricane in running in slow motion. It is obvious they were making fun of the intended veiwers yet they kept doing it. Same thing with the woman rafter who said something like"…then I felt this huge sucking feeling all over my body". Stop, rewind, zoom in and play. Lather rinse repeat.
The video is pretty cool but the commentary has gotten much better.
It is way better than the Cops “He stole a lettuce truck and now he’ll be making salads…IN JAIL!” crap. (BTW, I stole that quote from someone on another thread, or something similar)
The babe in the hurricane was Tammy, sleestak, and you’re right, it was funny as hell. The narrator guy even ripped on her boyfriend, “Her supposed boyfriend tries to prove his manliness by diving into the water”. And instead of showing the guy, they skip right back to Tammy in slow mo.
Too funny.
But I basically came back to comment on your Cops quote. Man, between that show and the “World’s etc. etc.” shows, the over hyped bravado and all around bullshit they spew, it’s becoming tough to watch them anymore. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the only thing you get from running from the cops is a night in jail… a mean jail. Heard it before big-guy.
I like the idea of introducing some humor behind the clips, and not taking them as if they’re some sort of pre-requisite to life and the law.
