May Glowers Bring (out) Grim Pills [May mini-rants thread]

What am I being a pill about today? Coupla things, both internet related.

  1. It’s time to re-up my SDMB subscription, but I’m on my tablet, and unsure if my new debit card info has been entered into my user CP.

  2. The erfworld website is undergoing a complete update, and is acting wonky. Hope they’ve finished by Monday.

Aarg! Achy teeth driving me crazy. I’m sure more enamel has eroded off, so the dentin is exposed, but Monday I’ll have to figure out when I can take more time off work (lots of things breaking at home lately) to get it all fixed up.

And, I’m sure that the Erfworld site is probably just recovering from that atrocious pun on Friday.

Easy microwave roux my ass!

What do I have to glower about? Welllllll…
A good friend/neighbor of mine has already sold her house and is moving out–soon. I hope she doesn’t go too far away.

Why I even bother to apply for FT positions at my university workplace, I do not know. I am sick of watching those positions get snapped up by people who’ve only been there a short time. Then again, they’re often younger than I am.

mrAru and I decided sort of randomly to go visit my brother. Arrived to find him ill with a double whammy - he started feeling cruddy 3 weeks ago, seemed like pneumonia [something he gets occasionally, we share the same shitty lungs genetically speaking.] So he went to the doc and got prednisone and chest imaging which found dark masses in the 2 lower lobes of his right lung [and lots of liquid] so they drained him and biopsied him. So mrAru and I turned around, headed back for Connecticut and got a seabag of clothing and such for me to go and take care of him while he got a diagnosis/prognosis.

Tuesday, he asked me to call him an ambulance and get him to the ER because he couldn’t breath at all. So he got admitted and put directly into the ICU. Wednesday and he gets the diagnosis. Terminal cancer … so tomorrow morning I have an appointment with the hospice social worker to see what our options are going to be.

And I now have both the powers of attorney for he and my mother, and I get to give the nursing home facility our choice for her of pallative care.

So at some point in the too near future I am going to be arranging funerals for my mom and brother.

fuck my life.

Why do pills have to be round with flat edges? It’s as if the people making them know realize they will land on the little edges, roll off the table and hide under the refrigerator 2 out of 3 times. Make the pills oval, square, triangular, but not round.

It’s as if they never got the message about wheels being round.

When someone asks for a recipe, and I say, “well, start out with a very dark roux” it’s amazing how often that shuts down the conversation.

Peeps be afraid of roux.

I just read that Starbucks is being sued for putting too much ice in their iced beverages. What gives?

If you ask for less ice, do they then fill the container less full? I wouldn’t blame them — their prices are based on ingredients, of which the ice is probably cheaper than the other.

Perhaps Starbucks is over-priced — find another vendor then, if one exists. But suing them for putting ice in iced beverage? :smack: Is this just a prank for Candid Camera or something?

Taking your 15, 9, and 4 year old sons to see Deadpool in the theater is not something to brag about. Excusing it by saying you don’t shelter your kids and this enables you to have conversations with them is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. There’s a difference between not sheltering your kids and intentionally corrupting them.

When I asked how they explained the pegging scene, they said “the what?” Apparently they didn’t notice Ryan Reynolds getting fucked in the ass… I bet you money the 4 year old did.

(((((aruvqan))))) :frowning:

aruvqan, I’m so sorry. What a heavy load. I hope you at least get some quality time with both of them although that’s probably little comfort. Hugs. :frowning:

As it turns out, “Can’t find the problem, come back when it hurts more” is worse dentist-news than needing a root canal or similar.

In my experience, that’s the dentist-news that leads up to the root canal news. (The root in my tooth was pretty much dead by the time they decided to do a root canal…that’s probably why I didn’t think it was nearly as horrible as everyone says it is.)

My rant: yesterday, I transplanted some cute little flowers outside. Today, we had a massive hailstorm. :frowning:

Also, {{{aruvqan}}}

I missed the split second between “almost there” and “smoke bomb.” I opened the windows to dissipate the smoke and replaced it with pollen and flies. And in the end I still ended up making the roux by hand, and I destroyed a nice Pyrex measuring cup.

I’ll not be trying that technique again but the gumbo is very good.

Some dentin wore off the biting surfaces of some of my teeth. The dentist gave me a prescription for special toothpaste. It seems to be working. It’s hard to tell because it takes a long time to do its job.

I didn’t know there was prescription toothpaste! I was going to suggest toothpaste for sensitive teeth for Lightray.

I already use the sensitive teeth toothpaste, because of prior enamel erosion exposing the dentin (since fixed). However, I noticed while swimming tonight that one of my ears wasn’t relieving pressure normally, so… might have an ear infection. Which can (weirdly) present as tooth pain sometimes. Yay?

Since a prior dentist told me “Never come to me for a root canal: your roots go down to your jawline”, I’m kinda hoping to avoid having to do that. So, bring on the swimmer’s ear!

To whoever texted me anti-semitic hate messages this weekend: Please at least learn how to spell.

Also, motivating myself is a gigantic pain in the ass lately.

You and your family are in my thoughts, aruvqan.

Yep, Prevident! It has more fluoride than the over-the-counter stuff. I think I remember being told that it was originally developed for chemo patients…I use it because my enamel sort of sucks. And Caractacus Pott, it definitely works…I’ve had a drastic reduction in cavities and pitting. Occasionally a little piece of tooth will flake off, but it always turns out to be from really old ‘suspicious’ areas that the dentist already had marked for observation.

Peace and hugs to Arquvan. My son fainted again yesterday and despite a million tests, they can’t determine a cause. It was the first time I saw him faint and it sure looked like a seizure to me. Watching him jerking and frothing with his eyes rolling was horrible. I’m loaded because I did mot cope well yesterday.
