Probably half the people I know well are black and I don’t know any who would defend, cogitatione verbo et opera, the actions of those murderers or object to them being imprisoned for life. (I’d say “object to them being killed” except many people, understandably [though I disagree], object to the death penalty for any reason.) The white people I know would not defend or stop white men who committed a similar crime on a black person. I think it’s because it’s in such times that we transcend ethnicity and become just human, and humans don’t allow humans to get away with that unless they themselves are amoral or insane.
I am strongly against key components of hate-crime legislation.* I was in fact the first gay person I ever knew to speak out against hate-crime legislation- I wrote an editorial on it at least 10 years ago and was blasted by other gays for it. I couldn’t give a fuck about political correctness (respect for others and common decency, yes, but I don’t conflate that with political correctness). I detest Al Sharpton with a non-consuming passion (that is to say I don’t obsess over him, but when I think of him it’s with disdain). But I honestly don’t think “The Judgment of Paris” Hilton has anything to do with her race or race appeasing- she’s not a scapegoat, she’s a spoiled rich bitch who got possibly a harder sentence than most would have gotten because of her fame/infamy and then got it reduced to less than most would have gotten because of her wealth. It’s a non-story.
And if you’re worried about crimes against white girls ever going unreported then you must have fallen from Nancy Grace.
I understand the point you’re going for, and it’s one that could be argued, but two things I wouldn’t include if you want to make an effective case or even an effective pitting are
1- Paris Hilton
2- neo-Nazi propaganda

*This is to say that I am against sentencing being harsher for “hate” motives. A person who without provocation attacks a person because that person is black/white/gay/Jewish/Muslim should be tried for for attacking another person without provocation; I will trust that the sentence would be appropriate. The only part of hate-crime legislation I do agree with is that if local law enforcement does not pursue the case and there is reason to believe it is due to prejudice then the FBI or other Federal agency should be allowed to step in, and I also believe that motivation should matter in the compilation of statistics.
