As for walking through black neighborhoods, I notice it’s not qualified. There’s a neighborhood about a mile from where I live that’s almost all black and where most people are professional (teachers, military, lawyers, etc.) and property values rise and on any given day you’ll see folks cutting flat lawns on $1000 riding mowers and firing up stainless steel grills like in every other professional neighborhood, but it never occurred that they wanted to cut me.
However, I can think of black and white and racially mixed neighborhoods in the city that are extremely poor where crime is rampant and it’s dangerous to walk down the streets in daylight. I wonder if criminal behavior could be related more to poverty than race?
