Or so you’d think. This campaign has reached lows I didn’t know were possible.
But wait! There’s less!

You’re full of shit. Show us the applicable federal statute, or shut the fuck up. Your feign of disinterest, pretentious condescension, and reckless claims won’t fly here. How can you even post in this thread without utter shame? Go away. Just fucking go away.
It’s appropriate that you should mention Ron Popeil’s trademark line, considering that it seems like McCain is continuing to dig his hole…with a freakin’ Ginsu knife. (“Don’t set it down! It’ll chop straight through your butcherblock!”)
Ditto.
Heck, if he did decide to do that (don’t get me wrong; I don’t think he needs to and I think that Shodan’s allegations of “bribery” are absurd), how long do you think it would take before he had enough donations to cover the cost of the trip? One hour? Two?
By the way, just to be clear. Does the A-wipe that made the comment actually work for the McCain campaign? Or is he just a mythical “GOP Strategist?”
You assume facts not in evidence. I have not ever seen Shodan post anything that even approached acknowledging the possession of a sense of shame.
He is a Republican hatchetman and scuzzbag who chaired and funded the infamous Freedom’s Watch right-wingnut group. He is what is called a “surrogate”. In other words, MSNBC or CNN or whoever calls the campaign and says it needs a spokesman for the 3:00 spot or whatever. The campaign then sends someone, in this case Blakeman.
More plane trips today…Palin flying to Alaska for her deposition:
“But the policy speech isn’t the only news Palin will make today. NBC’s Guthrie reports that Palin will be deposed today by the independent investigator working for the Alaska personnel board in the Troopergate probe. The interview will be under oath, and Todd Palin will be deposed separately. Among the campaign staff and reporters traveling with Palin yesterday was her personal attorney, Thomas Van Flein, who flew from Alaska to meet Palin and traveled on the campaign plane. Coming 11 days before the election, the depositions aren’t good timing for the campaign, which had to deal with a spate of Troopergate headlines two weeks ago, when the legislative committee issued its report on the matter and found Palin had abused her power. Less than two weeks to go and the GOP VP nominee is participating in a deposition? Seriously? This isn’t bad luck for the McCain campaign, this is a self-inflicted wound. Ouch”

I await the day you begin to hold your leaders to any sort of standard at all.
In Shodan’s case, that day is coming in January 2009.
Okay, Shodan, how about a put up or shut up? Why don’t you mosey on over to ActBlueand set up a fundraising page called something like “Raise Money for Obama’s Plane Trip To See Toot Before She Dies So He Won’t Have To Use Campaign Funds.” As soon as you do that, PM me the URL for the page and I’ll use my DailyKos account to diary the fundraiser and ask for donations. Somebody already did the math here, I think the round trip cost for a 767 was something like ten grand, right? I bet that page will have that much AND A WHOLE FUCKPOT MORE, in less than 24 hours. After all, the ActBlue page for El Tinklenberg got well over a hundred grand in 24 hours, not to mention the other donations made directly to his website and other means–almost half a millionafter DKos got into the act.
C’mon, you loudmouth, condescending, supercilious motherfucker, how about it?
Then, just to make it interesting, why not set up a comparable page on whatever the Repuglicans use for their fundraising efforts and see if you can raise an equivalent amount for “Paying For That Trollop’s Designer Clothes” and see how far that gets you.
Insert sound effect of gauntlet hitting floor
You know this is a bit unhinged eh? I am at a loss to understand why there is outrage over the wardrobe of Palin - real outrage as opposed to posturing (certainly I grant that American right wing ideologues would likely exploit such against the left, but really, intra SDMB is this sensible - I grant also Shodan is a party political hack as well…).
It was $3,300, and he was assuming Obama was flying a 767 based on the jerk’s comment, and not a smaller 757, which is what Obama actually uses. It’s such a piffling amount that it isn’t worth bothering about.
I think for most people it started out as amusement. For me, for sure. She needed clothes, I understand that. She needs nice clothes that fit. I understand that. I still think she could have gotten very nice clothes at lower-end designer stores (like Ann Taylor) and could have hired a full-time tailor to see that the clothes fit properly at much less cost. I still do not see the need for sprees at Saks Fifth Avenue and Nieman Marcus, but whatever. And of course now it looks like the operative who went out and bought all this stuff padded the expense account, so he was reimbursed for money he didn’t actually spend. There’s much more of a story there but the RNC is, typically when it comes to Republicans investigating their own, not interested in pursuing where their donor’s money went. That’s not outrageous, it’s just, well, typical. Par. Expected. Because Republicans can do whatever they want, whenever they want, and don’t have to answer to anybody. I think it’s actually in their party platform somewhere.
$3,300? Shit, let me check the sofa. Be glad to help out, not one of those guys what hates grannies and puppies like some people I could name…
I fully grant the supremacy of the Beatles. There is much to admire about the 60s (and some of so called 60s stuff actually happened in the early 70s, but that’s overlooked a lot); I am just tired of hearing about them. And not only that, I’m not Generation X, either, so there is no cultural voice for me. I do have a contemporary who will leave a huge mark, though–Obama and I are the same age. One up for us, the Overlooked Generation (born between 1960 and 1970).
And now back to the thread.
I am convinced that the more ardent GOPers suffer from a mental astigmatism of sorts. Palin “needed” clothes to do her job, so any amount(even if the bill is padded and exorbitant) is ok. Visiting sick relatives isn’t part of Obama’s “job” so that’s right out. Now, if Hillary blew 150K at the mall, we’d hear a great deal about elitist Dems shoving their privilege in the faces of hard-working Americans like Joe the Plumber, even if it needed for her job. It’s just a version of IOKIYAR. That particular meme will never die. Some people just can’t see hypocrisy.
And no one stirs shit like Shodan. I’m surprised you all still rise–that’s what makes him cackle and rub his hands with glee. He reminds me of Snidely Whiplash, although he’s probably more akin to Homer, the sidekick.
Of course he is going to disparage Obama’s decisions and choices. Of course he’s not going to condemn Palin’s decisions and choices (what does one wear to a deposition one has to fly home for?). Did you really expect him to look at this in any principled way? Be your ages!
Obama’s book is back on the bestseller list. I’m guessing that he has already written the check for $3,300 without thinking about it.
Tell ya what–go review Shodan’s “contributions” to this thread, then come on back and talk to me about unhinged, okay? I’ll wait…
So where on the continuum of “it’s part of the job” is flying back for depositions on her ethics investigation? Just so I can mark my scorecard…
Plus, this is a first time stick poking for me–I just wanna see how the weaseling goes this time. Perhaps I am not without my own goat munching tendencies after all…
She didn’t fly back. She had the investigator fly down to Missouri today to take her deposition. No word on who paid for the flight.
