I’m so tired of hearing about forks that on November 5, I may throw all of mine away and eat only with spoons and knives for a couple of months. Who started with the fork stuff originally- Billdo? (Or one of the guys who used it in 2004?) He’s got some ‘splainin’ to do.
Maybe we could get some fork barrel legislation passed so that you have a place to put them.
McCain is not forked yet, but he is being sporked to within an inch of his life. Sporking mostly leaves bruises and shallow holes.
You can recover from a good sporking, but it is uncommon.
Ah, but that’s not what they’re referring to. The aconymn for the Republican machine stands for “Go Obstruct The Vote”.

I just discovered the freepers a couple of days ago. It’s mind-boggling. There seems to be absolutely no counterpoint to the absurdity there–it’s all crazy, all the time. I can’t even be discouraged by it, it’s just too weird.
It’s like Arkham Asylum has its own BBS.
Indiana, which hasn’t voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since 1964, is now a toss up. PPPhas Obama up by 2. If McCain has to spend money to hang on to Indiana, he’s pretty screwed.

Exactly. There was a kerfuffle in 1980? when the networks called the election for Reagan before the polls closed in California. They don’t do that anymore.
I think that the networks will be reporting results as they come, but will refrain from claiming that either candidate has won the whole thing until the polls close in California at 11 PM eastern. In 2000, the networks were saying that Gore had won Florida before the polls had closed in the panhandle. At 10 PM, most networks had reversed themselves and declared that Bush had won Florida. After 2000, the networks decided, they said, to stop reporting results based on exit polls, and only report actual counted and reported votes. That’s what they did in 2004. They did not wait until after 11 PM eastern to report the incoming tallies from eastern states.

And this is what’s going to blow it for the Obama campaign, if they don’t buckle down on the “Get Out The Vote” efforts on Election Day. If early polling numbers show Obama winning by, like, forty gazillion percentage points, then supporters in states like ours may say “screw it” and stay home. Especially since Colorado was recently listed as one of the states least ready for the election, in terms of planning and voter registration issues, and since the Colorado ballot is so. damn. long this year.
If Obama wins anyof Virginia, South Carolina, Ohio or Florida, it’s not going to matter if they lose Colorado. McCain MUST keep those states. If there’s a serious blowout on the East Coast, voter turnout out West simply won’t matter. Since Iowa and New Mexico are almost certainly dead to McCain, he cannot afford to lose any other Bush state that’s currently in play. (Well, he could afford to lose North Dakota.) But if any of SC, VA, OH, IN or FL go, he’s dead, and if he loses two it won’t matter what happen in New Mexico or Colorado. If he wins them all but also loses Colorado, he’s still dead. His only victory scenario if he loses IA and NM plus any other swing state is taking away a Kerry state, and there aren’t any to be had.
I see the McCain camaign now denies surrendering Colorado, which I believe, because giving it up is just nuts.
The likelihood of a McCain victory is slim but possible. News that places like Georgia and Indiana are getting bluer is disastrous, but if Obama gaffes, the “All Bush but IA and NM” scenario’s quite feasible. But he MUST keep Colorado.

RickJay, you mean North Carolina, surely? NC is a battleground, SC has never been in contention AFAIK.
“All of us should be extremely wary of the half truths and outright untruths that have been spread by the recent negative campaigning and shameful automated phone calls,” said Barbara Lorman of Fort Atkinson. “While my admiration for Senator Obama has grown with his positive approach to addressing the challenges facing our nation, my disappointment with the McCain campaigned has deepened. The negative tactics are inappropriate, downright dishonorable and have no place in the State of Wisconsin.”
Who is Ms. Lorman you ask? Is she some pinko lefty wingnut? Actually she is the republican Senator from Wisconsin.
What does it say about a candidate who is repudiated by the big shots of his own damn party?

It’s going to be a bit chilly at the next Republican Senate caucus meeting.
ETA: She’s actually in the Wisconsin state senate, not the US senator from Wisconsin. I think if a Republican US Senator came out and endorsed Obama, that would cause some serious ripples.
Obama shot back up to 7.2 in the RCP average. Was the recent drop just some noise or did Powell’s endorsement bring Obama back up?
Nate Silver is considering it a dead cat bounce (even a dead cat will bounce up from a great fall) and nothing serious. He also mentions that Obama is winning early voters in polls by 20 points.
The quality of the air always seems better when Obama is ahead by 7 points.
Palin says she has more experience than Obama.I’m sure this will be argued down to the most trivial aspects of either ones career.
But I’m guessing Obama can tell a 3rd grader what the VP’s job is without fudging or making stuff up.

Also, I think Palin sincerely and honestly believes every good thing ever said about her by anyone, also.
Maybe this endorsement from Al-Qaida is just the game-changer McCain needs!

Pffft. It was a commentary posted on the site by who knows who. I could have been the guy who posted that.
But still… Forked. Definitely forked now.
What about the endorsement of McCain by Wassila Al-Asqa? Why has this not been talked about?
