When “My Love” came out and hit #1, I was around 12. We listed to 77, WABC out of New York City, and one of their disc jockeys, Dan Ingram, would add a little ‘something’ to some of the songs. He did this especially with the more repetitive ones that were number 1 or just were played a bazillion times a day. For “My Love”, he added a little “g” so the song actually sang “My Glove!” Well, the things we remember!
I actually like most of Sir Paul’s songs that he has done over the years. Ram was a pretty cool and fairly forgotten album. It spawned “Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey” as it’s only single (I believe), but the rest of it was pretty cool, too
Was Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey someone real?
“Bull” Halsey was one of the top American admirals in the Pacific fleet during the Second World War. Any good encyclopedia will tell you everything you’d ever want to know about him.
Uncle Albert was purely fictional. On the other hand, almost everyone mentioned in “Let 'Em In” was an actual member of Paul McCartney’s family. “Brother Michael,” for instance was McCartney’s brother, who had a short-lived musical career of his own, under the alias “Mike McGear.”
Among the few exceptions are “Phil and Don.” Those aren’t relatives of Paul McCartney, those are the Everly Brothers, Paul’s favorite group as a kid.
“Uncle Ernie”
Was this not a reference to The Who/Tommy?
I always thought it was. No cite, just one man’s opinion.
Interesting, I just gave the “Wings At The Speed of Sound” album to an officemate as a prize for a trivia quiz about 1971 (which was when Paul announced he was forming Wings).
Yes I said album. Vinyl.
