McLeod USA, kiss my arse

/vent on

I am trying to change my telephone service provider, from McLeod, to Cox Digital Telephone. So I call Cox about a month ago.

Cox says, “Most phone companies, you need 7-14 days notice to them. McLeod requires 30.”
I say, “OK, set me up for Sept. 30th then.”
Cox says, “No problemo.”

Well, last Friday, the 20th, I get a notice in the mail, from McLeod, saying that they need a order number, and a switch date, from Cox. Why they couldn’t ask themselves is beyond me. So, I call McLeod and give them the information. About 3 hours later, I get home from work. My phone is dead.

I call McLeod, and they said it would be back up in 24hrs. Three days later (Tuesday), I call back and say, my phone is stil dead. They say, OK, it should be up within 24-48 hours, we will escalate it. Thursday, the phone is still dead, and I call them back. They said I need to call Cox, since I’m switching, so they can hook it up. I call Cox, they say I need to call Qwest, which owns the phone lines. Qwest says McLeod owns them now. Finally, I get back to McLeod and they say they will escalate it again, and should be back up in 24 hrs.

Next day (two days ago…Friday) phone is still dead, I call them again, and they say they accidentally disconnected it, and will escalate it (see a pattern here?). Problem will be fixed in 24 hours. Yesterday, no phone, called them, started bitching them out fairly harshly, and said they would escalate it again. Today, phone still dead, they said their technicians don’t work weekends, so I will have to call back tomorrow.

So, my phone line is still dead, and now I have to cancel my Cox appointment for tomorrow, and re-schedule it for next week, because McLeod is probably the biggest bunch of incompetent buttwhackers that I have ever seen.

If it makes you feel better, McLeod will not be around much longer. Just look at their stock price. Our company switched providers since you know it is coming.

Sorry for resurrecting this, but just wanted to post an update. After many more phone calls, a letter to the BBB, I finally got my phone turned back on yesterday, October 14th. McLeod admitted they disconnected my phone 10 days early, and furious is too light a term to describe how I feel.

The saga continues, as today, Cox called me and said that McLeod said that I wished to remain a McLeod customer, and as such, cancelled my switch order. So now Cox has to place ANOTHER order, and I have to wait another 30 days to switch.

Un-fucking-believable.

Dude, that sucks big time. McLeod, by accident or design, is breaking the law by doing this. At this point you should put all your issues on paper. Set out a time line of what happened and when. Make a bunch of copies send one to the head of customer service at McLeod, send another to the CEO (just for the bitch factor) and send a third copy to the states PUC (this will put some spring in Mcleods step).

Basically what they have done is slammed you. Slamming is usually associated with changing the service provider of a customer against his will or knowledge. Keeping them from switching against their will is pretty much the same way.

Viscera, I am sitting here grinding my teeth, feeling an ulcer coming on, just reading about your trials and tribulations.

Don’t even get me started about what assholes Qwest and especially Earthlink are. Earthlink has charged me for six months of DSL service I never even had.

Even better than the BBB is your state’s attorney generals office.

Good luck!
