The Marvel movie series is currently in their planned “Phase 3”. The climax of this is set to be the third Avengers movie, Infinity War, which is scheduled for 2018. This will presumably resolve the whole Infinity Stones storyline that has been running through the series.
Has Marvel Studios and/or Disney said what their plans are for after that? Is some new threat in the making (the Inhumans?) that will tie the individual movies together? Will they have Thanos get away so he can be a recurring villain?
Do they have plans to wrap the series up? To take it in some new direction? Or just keep putting Robert Downey, Chris Evans, and Samuel Jackson in front of a camera until we stop buying tickets?
An untitled Avengers film (Infinity War Part 2?) (5/3/19)
Spider-Man Homecoming 2 (7/5/19)
Kevin Feige has mentioned the Inhumans as possible / likely subjects for a film in “Phase Four”, though prior plans for a film about them were postponed.
I remember, maybe two years ago, reading an article in which the author described a calendar in Feige’s office, with projects going out 15 years or so (though no details were given).
When they did the big reveal of all the Phase 3 movies, IIRC they announced that Avengers: Infinity War was two movies, in May 2018 and May 2019. Did that change?
It sounds like the 2019 film is still a sequel to the 2018 film, but they aren’t calling it “Infinity War Part 2” any longer. The 2018 film is simply, “Infinity War”, and the 2019 film doesn’t yet have an announced title.
Pretty much what the Russos has said that while the two are still very connected, they’re each their own movie (and also avoiding the recent failure of movies being split into two parts) .
It’s unclear what the actual end of Phase 3 will be. Everyone has assumed it will be the fourth Avengers movie, but they just announced Spider-Man sequel without explaining where it will fit in.
