Well, I did it for Babylon 5, and was horribly scarred by the abomination that is B5 after season 4. Now, I step up to the plate to watch the complete run of BtVL. Er, S. I’m liking this college thing. It’s a few days of working obsessively from sunup to midnight, and more days of relaxing just as obsessively. I’m almost done with season 3. Now, I’ve heard that season 6 is painful to watch. On the other hand, I enjoyed the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever. Am I in for more B5S5 pain?
Oh, bugger. Mods, drop this in CS, please?
So you’re not a science student, are you? My “TV” watching is mostly limited to 15-minute episodes of “Invader Zim” downloaded off of the internet (we don’t even have cable in the apartment). It’s a great show, and can fit in well in study breaks or between sections of lab reports I have 2 to write this weekend. And begin my research paper (well, the intro is done, but I have 11 experiments worth of information that I haven’t analysed yet).
OTOH, and slightly more related to your OP, I’ve had the “pleasure” of listening to the BtVS soundtrack in the lab lately thanks to another student being a fan - let me just say that you should be glad the the whole show isn’t a musical, because DAMN that cast can’t sing!
mnemosyne: Bwahahahah. Due to the bitchin’ skillz of my high school Bio teacher, I got not four, not six, but EIGHT AP credits for bio. That completely exempts me from my lab science requirement.
And I am a CS major. We do not take breaks. We are assigned programs. We code the programs. We kill time until the next program. Lather, rinse, repeat.
I’ll grant you that most of the songs aren’t that hot. I did like “Walk through the Fire” and “Rest in Peace”, though.
Season six is dark and heavy. Buffy spends the whole season in the throes of a major depression and no one else gets to be happy either. Ever. No happy for the Scoobies. The little bads are chuckleworthy but underwhelming. It’s not the best season, but in the way that “John Henry” is not They Might Be Giants’ best album. It might feel little weak in comparison to the rest of the catalog, but it’s head and shoulders above what everyone else is putting out.
Season 6 can be hard to watch, but not because it’s bad, just because the depression is pretty, well, intense. And everybody did some ugly things. (Except Tara—but then, she did help bring Buffy back, so…)
