Medical/Injury question - WAAAAY TMI Warning.

How does a person know when he has injured his testicles enough that medical treatment is in order?

I was riding a dirtbike and really wracked myself. It has been about 4 hours now, and the pain is still quite attention getting.

Visual inspection doesn’t reveal any obvious damage. I can’t even contemplate doing a manual inspection. I don’t think I could take it.

I took an 800 mg Motrin about 30 minutes ago, and I think that is starting to help.

I tried ice, but that just wasn’t working. It causes two problems.

  1. Couldn’t really take the pressure.
  2. I don’t think it is possible to put a bag of ice in your crotch and stay warm otherwise. If I am ever stuck in the desert and have only one ice cube, I now know exactly where to put it for maximum cooling effect.

The key to my indicision is this. I really don’t feel like driving or being driven anywhere right now. I want to maintain as little bouncing or jiggling as humanly possible. I have no interest in going through the transport or the pain of the inevitible examination to be told to go home, take some motrin, and put some ice on it.

On the other hand, if this needs treatment… I would probably be better off starting sooner rather than later.

Who’s to say? You’re talking about the family jewels here. Best to get a professional opinion as uncomfortable as that may be. Yeah it sucks when they tell you to go home and take aspirin along with their $500 bill for that sage advice but then again it’s better to catch a problem early in case there is one.

Like I always say, “That which does not kill you only makes you stronger…but it hurts like the sonafabitch!!”

so long as the injury is not life threatening, there is usually no need to seek immediate help. If the medicine and the ice is helping somewhat, hold off on seeking help for further observation. If the pain stays constant or increases, go seek help. Look for any kind of bleeding, blood in urine, excessive swelling later on in the day to determine if you need help. If it bothers you enuf, go seek help anyway. At the very least you can ask for stronger drugs since the motrin doesnt seem to help.

If you can’t stand ice, how about a cool, damp cloth?

Another suggestion: I’m undergoing therapy for an injured back, and they advised me to wrap my ice pack in a dry towel, then apply. Use only for about 15 minutes at a time.

Naproxen might bring down the selling a bit, as well.

The motrin finally did its stuff. It looks like things are gonna be alright.

I hope I never manage to make that particular mistake again.
