So Kyyrewyyoae should have the file. in his inbox…hm.
If we get no nibble from him in a day or so, Rand, would you mind private messaging him?
Hmm. I don’t seem to have it. Mind sending it again?
Sent. If you didn’t get it PM me because chances are I’m screwing something up.
Got it. I should get to playing it today or tomorrow.
Sweet. I’m not a complete screwup then.
I’m sure you’re not even a partial screwup, senor.
What happened to our Holy Roman Empire? I think **Miller ** had it last.
I’m supposed to play for the reign of the sultan, right? I’ve played him from age 31 to 45, and I can pass it off if somebody wants it. Otherwise I’ll keep going until he dies.
Not me. I haven’t seen a save file since we played as Denmark.
Ludovic, you still have the Holy Roman Empire game?
If not, Miller, start us up again, please.
Jalaf took the reins of the Empire in 1208, inheriting wars with the HRE and Venice. A few years later the Venetians sued for peace, but the Germans continued to sniff around Magdeburg. Jalaf himself was never mistaken for a warrior; he was sickened by the sight of blood and terrified of Spaniards.
New lands were added to the empire, primarily those which had been Sicilian. Sicily launched an invasion of Tunis, which was easily beat back, and their faction heir landed alone in Marrakech with two priests. Crown Prince Hicham rode him down and ransomed him back to his father for 5716 florins.
The invasion of Naples and Palermo was accomplished by the Moors’ top general, Ayyub, and a smaller army under the personal command of the Sultan. These troops had been earmarked for operations near Baghdad but were quickly redeployed to meet the new threat. Sicily put up little resistance and was quickly eliminated.
The Germans returned to Magdeburg after a long absence, but the rebuilt defenses held them off with few losses. A few years later the Holy Roman Emperor bought peace for a small tribute over 19 turns.
The empire was briefly at peace, until a rapid series of invasions by the Spanish, Egyptians, and Byzantines. There were simply not enough forces to meet the threat at every point, and several small middle eastern settlements were overrun.
The bulk of Moorish troops moved to defend the Iberian holdings, which Adil Hissou took a small band east to distract the Egyptians. The financial situation left the empire at a severe naval disadvantage.
The Spaniards captured Valencia, but the Sultan reclaimed it personally a short time later. The Iberian battle lines have stabilized since then; the heavy infantry of the Spanish (dismounted knights mostly) outclass anything we can field and gains are slow. Several Spanish kings have met their end on the battlefield, but they fight on. With the main body of the Spanish forces occupied near Toledo, a small force was able to take and hold Zaragoza, but the celebrations were muted by the news that the Portuguese have entered the war.
Adil Hissou proved a reliable source of funds. He sacked both Alexandria and Cairo several times, keeping the Egyptians from making any kind of serious offensive.
Trade has been expanded in Timbuktu, but profits are down as our trading partners attack us one by one. A sizeable, if scattered, navy is finally strong enough to defend Moorish ports from blockade.
There are a couple of different lists. Who should I send the file to?
appleciders
…
Gukumatz
Revenant Threshold
LOUNE
Ludovic
Talon Karrde
Alessan
Kinthalis
RandMcNally
Kyyrewyyoae
I believe that’s our list right now. **appleciders ** gets it, then the rotation starts over.
Edited to Add: Is there actually a way to pronounce your name, Kyyrewyyoae?
It’s been sent to appleciders.
My name was taken from the The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Episode Guide, where it was listed as an obsolete pre-Great Vowel Shift form of the name Crow. So I guess it’s pronounced that way, though I’ve honestly had little reason to ever say it aloud.
And now I’ll be confused, since I was playing a Moorish campaign at the moment anyway. Yay confusion! I’ll get right on it. By the way, what difficulty are we playing this on?
I believe it’s medium/medium.
For the record, I’m pronouncing it “Kai-ree-oh-way” and I think I’m having a degree of success with it that way.
I set the Moors to Medium campaign, Hard battles.
I’ve never seen an HRE save file, either. The save files I was trying to send to Miller were Moorish, I was just assuming we would be working from the same list. Then, we decided to start the Moors over and I randomized the list.
Okay, I’ll start a new HRE campaign when I get home tonight. Which list do I use for forwarding the save file?
The short-lived reign of Sultan Azizudeen ended in Moorish-controlled Sardinia in the year 1384 as the Sultan fell victim to the Plague as it swept through Europe. While the Sultan himself spent the entirety of his reign in this province, he successfully co-ordinated the Moorish capture of both Toledo and Pamplona. While the Spanish heavy infantry greatly outclassed the light Moorish troops, the Sultan’s servant Jalaf caught the foolish Spaniards as they tried to cross a bridge and destroyed them utterly. The defeat of the main Spanish army left the path to Toledo mostly clear, and Jalaf and his army swept through quickly and captured the citadel with little trouble. As the army prepared to move forward to Leon and finish off the Spanish infidels, the Portuguese split their army and sent one branch to besiege Zaragoza and the other to follow the Pope’s crusade to Antioch. With only half the Portuguese army to contend with, Jalaf destroyed the besiegers and quickly took Pamplona. With the Plague sweeping through Europe, however, it was deemed wisest to keep the army out of cities and the Iberian Moorish forces resumed their march to Leon. The army now camps just out of sight of the walls, awaiting the new Sultan’s orders. The outlook is bleak for the Moorish holdings in the East, however- the Mongols have laid siege to Mosul, and while the armies are ready for an epic defense, little hope remains of achieving anything more than a delaying action. Quick diplomacy might convince the Horde that Mosul could be purchased instead of conquered, and so retrieve something from an apparently lost situation.
Azizudeen focused his domestic policies on getting the Sultanate out of the unfortunate debt that holds the Moors back from their righteous conquests. He succeeded for a short time before the Plague destroyed his profits. As the Plague wanes, the Moors may again see profits that can reasonably bolster the armies. Though he did not live to see his work, Azizudeen has ordered the construction of an armory in Toledo that will be able to produce the powerful heavy infantry that the Sultanate lacks.
In an out-of-character note, how in the heck did we wind up with Mosul, Magdeburg, and Trebizond? Save file’s been sent on to Gukumatz.
File received, will go to work on it when I get home from work today morning
The reign of Emperor Heinreich the Chivalrous was short and rather sad. After an initial success in the siege of Hamburg, he was unable to mobilize fast enough to secure his Eastern borders from the Poles, who quickly moved in and seized rebellious territories on that flank. War with Venice followed swiftly, and an early victory at Vienna and a seemingly under-defended Venice led to a rash strike by the Emperor himself. Cut off from support, he died in the field of battle, his forces in serious disarray.
He left behind a legacy of prosperous trade agreements with most of his neighbors, a through system of roads throughout the empire, and a tenuous alliance with the people of Hungary. Bologna was stripped for the siege of Venice, and is vulnerable to counterattack, and the holdings in Northern Europe are lightly garrisoned and in need of re-enforcement, but there is a good sized force of spearmen and archers in the field near Venice, waiting a good commander to lead them in counterattack against the hated Venitians. God help Emperor Henry I. He’s going to need it.
Who gets the save file?
Shuffle up the list and post it. It’s up to you, senor.
