I need 14 cities in something like 20 rounds. Don’t really see it happening.
I haven’t taken Jerusalem, and I won’t until I absolutely have to. I don’t have enough forcces in the Levant to go on an offensive against the Mongols. Besides, they scare me. I don’t want to antagonize them.
We could restart the often-failed HRE campaign. Hungary might be fun, I like cavalry. Egypt, too, although that might be too close to the Moops. Or maybe someone with pikes?
Well, holy crap. That’s about the best start I’ve ever had. The results are clearly there as well. I pimped the hell out of the diplomacy. Your enemies are the Danes (I thought about killing them in the very beginning when there was little reprocussion, but I balked at the idea) the Sicilians, the Byzantines, and the Egyptians. This should be a fast game. I’m starting to get an army just below Arhus to sweep in and take out the Danes. Outside of that, repel your attackers and…kick some ass. appleciders

appleciders, it’s coming to you. xtisme, you still in with us?
By the way, my intent is to keep this game cycling around through the expansion and the Total Realism modification. That cool with everyone?

I’m probably going to have to drop out of this thread come about August 20th when I go back to school, so I have no opinion about expansions or Total Realism. Will get moving on the HRE.
The computer’s fine, but I try to make a point of not playing games at school to keep myself social. I will play a little, but not reliably enough to merit keeping up in this thread. I may keep posting snarky comments, but I won’t be actually participating.
Oh, and damn if that’s not the best first forty-odd turns I’ve ever seen. I inherit an empire with 33 territories and six or eight alliances? Quite a good start. I’m besieging the Dane’s last city right now and prepping an army to attack Sicily at Palermo by way of the sea- I hope to catch them off-guard with only a couple units in the city. I’m aiming to hold the whole Italian peninsula aside from Rome which will give a nice financial position as well as the resources to take Rome in the end. Relations with Rome at the moment are excellent, and I’m even toying with the idea of jumping in on the next Crusade to pop up.
Like I said, yeah, I got a rather good start. Diplomacy is fun.
Relations are perfect with the Pope because…well…he was a Holy Roman Cardinal. I packed the College of Cardinals.
I know what you mean about wanting to be social. I know exactly what you mean.
Well, we’ve got four of our own cardinals in, though none of them are pious enough to reach the rank of Preferati. Of course, those three Preferati belong to our enemies the French, the Venetians, and the Polish. A few of our alliances have fallen apart- the French have lately been attacking Imperial holdings in the West, taking Bordeaux and narrowly failing to take Caen. (Epic, epic battle, ranging down to fifteen sergeants holding the center square against all comers as the archers got pinned up on the walls too far away to be much help. 1800 troops defeated by less than 800.) The English have attacked me briefly, but I was able to negotiate a peace after they were attacked by Scotland in turn. Sicily has been driven off mainland Europe, but the Pope prevented me from wiping them out entirely. Venice, while never an ally, has gotten themselves excommunicated by attacking Vienna after the Pope ordered them not to. They paid for their mistake when the Pope ordered a Crusade against their capital Zagreb when I slipped him the hint. Poland has declared war on the Empire. The Byzantines have failed in four or five attempts to take Durrazo, allowing me to train the general there into an extraordinary commander. I plan to get a significant army under his command ready to sweep into Constantinople.
Sorry this is taking so long; I take quite a while to plan each turn. My emperor is fifty or so and marching to war in France; he shouldn’t last too much longer. I can be hard on commanders.
S’okay, I’m currently trying to conquer Europe as fast as possible with Poland. I’m not sure that any non-Byzantine country with the possible exception of the Turks can do it faster (since Russia starts too far away from Central Europe and has lousy beginning troops vis a vis Poland.) Currently on Turn 22 with 12 settlements–oh for the days where you could advance across the Russian plains at one territory per year!
22 with 12 settlements? That’s a solid start. That start I had with the Holy Roman Empire is the fastest start I’ve ever had, and I’m a notorious fast-starter.
So the Emperor is (finally) dead! On the other hand, this game is about two turns from being over.
After a series of broken and remade alliances with France (including a call for regicide from the Prince, something I’ve never seen before) I’ve annexed all of their territory except the capital at Marseilles. The Polish accepted a ceasefire after being trounced at Prague, but have recently declared war on me, as have their allies the Russians and Spanish, as well as someone else I can’t call to mind at the moment . The Venetians, I believe, are limited to their sole remaining territory, the island Crete, and have accepted a marriage alliance to prevent complete annihilation. Hungary has been our only true ally, faithful for the entire reign. The Pope, while Polish, absolutely loves the Empire, and will be quite shocked when our long-standing alliance is broken in a surprise attack by our forces massing outside Florence. You see, we need 45 territories, including Rome, to win this, and we have 44. To add insult to injury, the commander of those forces was horribly deformed by God as his birth- surely he will have questions for God’s regent about that. If any need to continue playing after Rome is taken becomes apparent, the Empire’s 8 cardinals will ensure a reconciliation with the Church.
I can’t believe how long that stupid emperor lasted- he went on Crusade (to Bordeaux, but still), led the assaults on four castles, had his bodyguard whittled down from 61 to 12, got horribly scarred in battle, and just generally refused to die until he was 62, when he died peacefully in his sleep.
Ludovic, do you even want this? I’ll send it along, but it’s got less than an hour of play left.
