Medium returns tonight in time for May sweeps, I assume. An evil medium shows up tonight, along with promises of executive producer Kelsey Grammer showing up later as the Angel of Death.
I have an appalling fondness for this show. Good ep. (We’re 3/4 of the way through it on the East coast.)
I love the little kid playing Bridget. Her voice and delivery just crack me up.
That aside, it is wonderfully disturbing at times but also shows the strain on the couple’s marriage–not to mention the strain of a mother trying to go to work, pick up kids, cook, etc. even while she’s frequently being awakened by horrifying images.
another committed watcher. <yeah, no comments needed on the “committed” part.>
i was having heart palpitations there when Allison was calling 911 for the girl at home alone. i couldn’t help thinking “Oh, CRAP! She’s just flagged the girl as vulnerable for the guy, and it’ll kill her if he gets to her now. She’ll feel like she set the whole thing up.”
So i just loved the poetic justice of how he gets caught.
yeah, and Bridget’s dream was the icing.
Mrs. Gryphon and I are addicted. It’s a gimmick, but it is a good gimmick and the characters and performances are usually quite good.
I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like Bridget – she has this great dead-pan delivery of things that just works.
This is one of my favorite shows. I used to have a real dislike for Patricia Arquette. I mean, I couldn’t stand to watch her, and now she just fascinates me.
I still don’t like her and think she couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag. Or maybe it’s just the sound of her whiney voice. But still, I watch this show every week without fail. At first I figured that the show would soon become formulaic but, so far, every episode has something new to offer.
The actress who plays Brigette was on the tonight show and she is charming. I usually don’t like precocious child actors, but she is very sweet. Perhaps it’s because she doesn’t have the look of the typical child actress.
We’ve been fans all along. I have liked Patricia since True Romance days and find it amusing that she and Gandolfini (whom she beat to death with a toilet tank lid before shooting him several times with a shotgun just to be sure) are heading up hit series at the same time.
Maria Lark is terrific as Bridget and I even started a thread some time back about how she may be one of those kid actors who has what it takes to move into teenage and adult roles with some ease. I think her savvy of what’s going on is uncanny or else she’s really well directed.
For me, the thing that keeps this show from being dreck is the family angle and how Allison seems to be mildly annoyed that she has these gifts. The fact that the kids have shown the blossomings of similar powers adds to the ability not to just dismiss it as hokum. I haven’t had the curiosity to watch Ghost Whisperer because the previews and promos have made it look too much like those The Ring chunks of nonsense. But Medium seems almost plausible by comparison.
I think Jake Weber does a great deal for this series as well.
It’s kind of sad that NBC only has Medium and Heist going for it as far as we’re concerned. It’s like they have this death wish to continue as bottom feeders.
Is there anything more stupid than Deal or No Deal? I mean besides American Idol?
I was starting to think that *Medium * had been cancelled or something. Very glad to see it back with new episodes.
For some reason I can’t resist a show with a paranormal theme :o and Medium is the best of that kind. It takes a far out premise and presents it believably. Unlike *Charmed, Supernatural, * or The Ghost Whisperer, which I also faithfully TiVo in spite of how silly they can be.
nononononononono
Charmed gets a pass as being a more fantasy/supernatural category.
Supernatural – well, i’ll admit to fearing a “jump the shark” episode when the boys finally met up with Dad (that whole “unkillable villian” meme). on a second viewing, though, it wasn’t quite as bad as i originally thought. doesn’t hurt that the guys are cute, either.
Ghost Whisperer, though… it was getting a bit cloying there. i did happen to catch one of the latest episodes – Something Bad apparently sucking away the earthbound souls, or some such. maybe i’ll give it one more chance. or maybe it’ll stay in the “meh” mode. i’m very lukewarm at the moment.
yes, another hopeless watcher of the extra-ordinary.
True, Supernatural isn’t that bad (also, I adore Jensen Ackles). But Ghost Whisperer sort of drives me crazy – not the scripts, really, but the wardrobe. My Lord, how many false eyelashes does JLH go through in each episode?!
Not to Hijack, but Charmed is going away–down to it’s last 5 episodes or so.
I’m wondering how “Happily Married” and retired is going to play with the general audience of the show.
But that’s the subject for another thread.
Awhile back I speculated on whether or when Allison was going to get “outed”, and it almost looks like they’re starting to lead up to this. Are we going to hear more from the evil psychic? He knows about Allison and a good defense lawyer (the one who already loathes and suspects Allison?) could put a very unwelcome spotlight on her.
