Meet my new kitty Jack

A kitty needs a laser pointer as well as a box in order to be truly happy.

And you might find out that you LIKE eggs…if they aren’t factory eggs. Not killing the chickens, though, might be problematic. From what I understand, aged hens just aren’t worth keeping.

I stopped eating eggs when I was 9. My science class hatched chicks and I took care of them (or course!). I haven’t eaten an egg since. I know rationally that the eggs we get at the grocery store aren’t fertilized, etc., but I just can’t do it. When I was a kid my father would cook a big breakfast after Mass on Sunday. I’d sit out on the porch with my dog while the eggs were being cooked and consumed and come in after everyone was finished and eat cold toast and bacon. It’s too bad, too. Living alone, eggs would be such a cheap and convenient meal.

Antigen - Thanks! Look at theBefore pic. My handyman and I painted it over the last several weekends and just finished two weeks ago.

OMG, she’s a descendant of Man o’ War! Some pedigree!

What a cute kitty!!

Heh. I felt the same way about cheese for a long, long time, after my Camp Fire Girls group visited a dairy and we learned, and smelled, just how cheese was made. I think I was just about the same age, too. I got over it. But if you feel an emotional attachment to chicks, then of course you aren’t going to want to eat eggs. Maybe you could raise peafowl and collect the males’ trains. I’ve heard that they’re noisy, though. The fowl themselves, not their trains.

Peafowl are VERY loud (friends of ours have neighbors who have them). I’ve thought on several occasions I was hearing a human screaming. That would be unsettling to live near.

I can’t really tell from quick googling, but are peafowl the same as peacocks? 'cause, yeah, sounds like someone’s getting murdered every couple hours if so. Of course seeing them nest up in the trees is kinda cool. Until they start screaming, anyway.

Peacocks are male peafowl. The females are peahens.

(My bold) Jack wears SHOES???

StGermain, I follow TB racing. Here’s more info on your mare. She earned $34K and ran mainly in Illinois and Arkansas. Her last race was in August of 2005:

This is a site where anyone can add info. If you want to write an update (for instance she’s still listed as a filly), click on “Maintenance”. Maybe add a picture. When you’re finished you can email and request her page be locked so no one can mess with it:

Her sire was Cahill Road, who was quite talented and on the Derby trail until he injured himself and was retired. Cahill Road’s full brother was Unbridled, who won the Derby and was an influential sire until he died of colic at the age of 14.

Your cats don’t?

Helena - Thanks!! $34K isn’t much money, but she was in the money 15 times in 27 starts, which doesn’t seem to shabby to me.

Not with laces. I guess they’re slow, they can’t tie a bow. They’re useless at Christmas.

Did anybody notice that both Peppermint Roads are descended from Nearctic? They’re, like, distant cousins!

Love the red on your house. It looks like you chose it to be a perfect background for an adorable black and white cat.

kayT - LOL! I have a black and white cat, but he’s hanging out in the barn. He seems to think the barn is one big bachelor pad. I didn’t have the heart to tell him he’s no longer a swingin’ bachelor.
