like everybody else it seams i don’t hate meg griffin and cant understand why the “running joke” is that she is ugly.
then again family guy is the “lowest form of comedy” and it appeals only to those who have no idea what real comedy is or how funny it can be. a prime example of this is the constant use of cut-away visual gags rather than use word play or slap-stick for humor. i for 1 will only watch 1 episode of the show and that’s the 1 where meg finally stands up to her abusive family but i feel it still appeals to the lowest IQ by reverting to type at the end of the episode and having her take it all back.

I know Larry Linville stopped going to script readings for MASH as he didn’t see the point, since his character was just a punching bags for other characters and had no development. I wonder if Mila feels the same way with Meg. Do they do script readings for animation shows?
No, and I think she likely thinks “Wow, I only have to come in for a little while and I get a lot of money.”

Oh, how it wish that were still the case! After being cancelled and resurrected so many times, it’s losing a lot of its appeal with me because it’s not as low and trashy as it was when it was still new.
I admit, I cheered when Meg just beat the shit outta Peter. Long overdue, in my book.
Not as hard as I did when she beat the shit out of the assholes who torment her at school. I’d love to look up the morons I had to deal with 40–50 years ago and pay them a visit some day myself…
I don’t hate Meg, but I laughed.
I think it’s kind of symbiotic. Just as Family Guy grew bigger all thru the late 2000s so did Mila Kunis’ career (independent of FG). Consequently her Meg character got less and less screen time as she became less and less available. She’s since become a full-fledged, A-list, highly respectable actress and top-ten ‘most beautiful girls in the world’ during that time. I can only assume its out of loyalty & respect to McFarlane that she continues to do the voice at all! When the rest of them appeared on Lipton’s Inside the Actor’s Studio Seth Green claimed that Kunis wanted to be there but was too busy.
For the life of me I’ll never understand this attitude. In its early days I wrote long ranting posts here about what a total piece of shit I felt Family Guy was. And I still stand by them. I cannot watch episodes from those first three seasons. The humor falls completely flat, the characters are non-existent and pure shtick, the shows have zero plots, its just a bunch of lame cutaways & gags shoehorned into 22 minutes.
When South Park did their great Cartoon Wars trilogy and basically said exactly the same thing (the show was seen being assembled by manatees randomly grabbing ‘joke balls’ in a tank!) I felt totally vindicated.
But by reruns of the fourth and fifth season on Cartoon Network I started noticing that the show had gotten incredibly better. It was a real adult animated comedy show, not the slapdash sophomoric attempt at a Simpsons ripoff it had been. Some of the episodes mentioned are ones that really changed my mind. In particular the one where Quagmire lays bare what a complete poser asshole shallow hypocrite douchebag loser Brian is. Here was what I had always seen as just the goofball comedy relief neighbor character suddenly trying to tear down the star of the show, and he was totally right*!* My respect for the writiers increased 1000% after that scene.
This and its seemingly effortless and bafflingly backlash-less ability to showcase very politically incorrect homophobic and borderline racist jokes I find wonderfully refreshing and comedically honest. The episode where Brian has sex with Quagmire’s recently transsexual dad, they way they dragged out the payoff for so long, and when it finally comes, how does Brian react? By projectile vomiting for over 30 seconds straight, and then screaming in disgust!!! The look on Stewie’s face is priceless!
