Isn’t the heckler usually the one said to have the outburst? Especially when she’s escorted from the premises?

I think I might actually be on Mel’s side with this one. From what I’ve read, he was being baited by a political activist. This site has more details:

This woman went there with every intention of provoking a response. She handed off the microphone to a Mayan activist who started reading a statement in Spanish that the audience couldn’t understand. The audience itself was annoyed by the disruption. Gibson tried to let them speak but when it became obvious they were only there to troll, he told them to fuck off (which I’ve read elsewhere that the audience cheered).

I think this was an incident of some people with an agenda to poke Gibson with a stick and get him to blow up just to get some media attention for themselves.

They weren’t even right about their objections to the film. The Mayans DID practice human sacrifice. Maybe not routinely, but they did it and in the context of Gibson’s movie, he depicts them as doing it in this case as a desperation attempt to stop a drought.

Plus, there aren’t any ancient Mayans around anymore, so how can Modern day Mayans be slandered by this movie? Only an idiot would draw any conclusion that modern day Mayan descendents practice human sacrifice.

I’m no particular fan of Mel Gibson, but I think this “assistant professor” got precisely the response she deserved.
