How many films contain scenes in which a character played by Mel Gibson is explicitly tortured?
His filmography is here: http://us.imdb.com/Name?Gibson,%20Mel. I’m not a big Mel Gibson fan, so I haven’t seen most of the movies on that list, but it does seem like the majority of Mel Gibson movies I have seen contain a torture scene…
I suspect that I’m engaging in selective recall (with a skewed sample). Would a real Mel Gibson fan step up and show me that torture plays only a minor role in Mr. Gibson’s film oeuvre? I mean, film producers can’t be saying, “If we get Gibson, we gotta have a torture scene. His fans expect it!” Can they?
Anyway, I would rather watch Mel Gibson being tortured than watch Tom Hanks pee. That’s because I always swoon over the courageously-braving-torture-but-never-giving-up guys.
Oh, besides being tortured, Mel *always * screams/bellows/shouts in his movies.
I saw him in *The Bounty * when it was in the theater ( and impossible to find on video) and his throaty holler during a mutiny scene just caught my attention flat out.
The only films I don’t think he’s hollered in are *The River * and *Mrs. Soffell *. I can’t even recall *Bird on a Wire *, but then again, I don’t want to.
The three video stores in my area do not carry **The Bounty **. Naturally, being morons, they barely know who the **Marx Brothers ** are.
I don’t want to own it, I just want to see it again to see if it held up in my mind…as good as I thought it was then. And to see a very young Daniel Day-Lewis in it. ( I think it was his first movie.)
Well there is leeway here and there on the peeing thing but
Hanks pissed in League of their Own
Hanks pissed in Cast Away
Hanks leaked twice (!) in The Green Mile…little drops and a relaxing stream after being cured. Did he nail that utter relief of taking a leak after so long or what. Hell even I felt better after seeing him go.
Hanks pissed in Forrest Gump (in the White House)
I know there is others
Torturing Mel is just a means to an end - it’s only there to get him mad, because Gibson does insane fury better than any leading man, alive or dead. Anger is by far his best emotion; that’s why his best movies are those where he’s allowed to cut loose. Remember, he wasn’t Mad Max for nothing.
