One illegal immigrant was released after only two weeks of detention:

Cedella Roman, 19, ran across the [unmarked beach] border just south of the town of White Rock in Canada’s British Columbia, into the US state of Washington on the evening of 21 May… She headed back when the tide began to come in, going up toward a dirt path before stopping to take a photo of the stunning scenery, then turned around to retrace her steps.
It was then that she was apprehended by two US Border Patrol officers who told her she had crossed illegally and had been caught on camera…
Roman protested that she hadn’t seen any warning signs, and didn’t initially anticipate how serious the matter would become.

“I said to myself, well I may have crossed the border – but they’ll probably only give me a fine or they’ll tell me to go back to Canada or they’ll give me a warning.”

Complicating matters, Roman, who had come to Canada to visit her mother and work on her English, wasn’t carrying any government-issued ID on her at the time.

She was transferred by the officers to the Tacoma Northwest Detention Center, run by the Department of Homeland Security, 200 kilometers to the south.

With the passport arriving the same day, Homeland Security went into over-drive and were able to release Miss Roman from jail just 14 days later! Except for routine full-body searches, Miss Roman was not subject to torture and was provided with food rations throughout her 2-week incarceration.

Although dressed skimpily for beach running, Miss Ramon might have been carrying a dirty bomb, hidden in her body part. Although she was running back toward the sanctuary of Canada when apprehended, that might be because she’d seen the border police.

I Really Don’t Care (“Me Ne Frego”) was the slogan of early Italian fascists. The slogan has resurfaced in Italy and guys like Bannon, Gorka, and Miller are huge fans of the resurgent fascist movement in Italy. So Melania is saying they’re all fascists and stop trying to pretend otherwise.

Not being familiar with the Italian language or history, this one has me skeptical. Maybe those with more knowledge could render an opinion as to how crazy this is.

Because I’m sick of the whole, “well, she has power, she’s not trapped!” IF, for the sake of argument, she is in an abusive relationship, that doesn’t necessarily hold true. Money and fame aren’t absolute protection, sadly.

I am inclined to agree, but it does leave me conflicted. There’s an assumption there that no married woman has any agency, and we do no one any favors. She can both be abused and be a terrible person. and we have the right to censor her for her actions, and to suggest that if those actions are a condition of her relationship, then she has the ability to remove herself from criticism by ending the relationship.

Donald Trump made it pretty clear after his election that he fully intended to monetize the Presidency, backed by a supine GOP congressional majority. Not to single out Melania, but she’s unsurprisingly on board with that. She’s received six figures from Getty Images for the use of her likeness with the stipulation that, “They can only be used to accompany positive stories.”

So she has a strong basis for claiming economic damages to poorly sources assertions that she worked as an escort, as it could lop a substantial chunk off of her Oval Office financial opportunities.
