I would not describe Melania as a “whore”. If you’re going to claim she married for money and security I’d say “concubine” or “trophy wife” would be more appropriate. The former makes it more explicit the trade is sex for something else, but concubines are more likely to be classy, monogamous, and so forth as opposed to taking on all comers, like a whore or prostitute.

I’d never make the nature of a person’s sexual relationships into a basis for an insult.
If I wanted to describe someone’s actual occupation because it was relevant, I’d call them a prostitute or an escort or a sex worker. My strong preference would be to use the term she (or he) used themselves.
Look, I am withholding judgment on this particular woman because I think it’s sincerely possible that she’s in justified fear for her life and the life of those close to her. I think it’s plausible she’s been literally battered. But if I did want to express my utter and complete disgust for her (or any other woman), there’s a hundred ways to do that that don’t involve perpetuating a deeply held cultural belief that it’s okay to beat, rape, and kill women because of their sexual history. I could call her a bitch, a monster, a pathetic creature lacking the slightest shred of empathy, a waste of flesh, an idiot, a demon in human form, a souless psychotic . . . Jesus, if you really think the only way to insult her is to come at her for her sexual choices, you don’t really have much of an axe to grind with her.

Do you think that woman who have sex for money are sub-human? Do you have scorn for them? Do you think that they are tainted, and should have the decency to remove themselves from polite society? When they get raped and beaten and killed, do you think cops should treat those crimes differently, both because their testimony cannot be believed and because doing those things to a whore is a fundamentally different crime than doing them to a decent woman? Because all those things are fundamentally linked to the word “whore”.
