I don’t think this is true. As the saying goes “beauty is only skin-deep”. Inner beauty, intelligence and kindness tend to make someone who may be average looking look really attractive. At the same time someone who might be considered attractive but comes across self-absorbed and shallow really loses their attractiveness.
I used to work with a guy who was a little chubby, mostly bald and wore old-fashioned glasses. But he was smart, funny and nice and damn did he start looking hot to me. It got so I would turn beet red every time he stopped by my desk to chat. At the same time I worked with a guy who, on the surface, would be considered attractive but he was such a condescending snot that he just started to look ugly to me.
Melania isn’t unattractive to me but she just seems like a nicely wrapped box with nothing inside.
Melania is a woman whose looks register as “Ok, so I get why this is supposed to be conventionally attractive” but who completely fails to trip whatever switch in my lizard brain that makes me perk up. It’s not political, Melania has been largely invisible, she just doesn’t do anything for me. Which is fine since “doin’ stuff for me” ain’t her job.
To me, she looks like someone impatiently waiting for Stockholm syndrome to kick in. Still, if I could speak four languages and I was married to a guy who could barely speak one I’d probably feel the same.
I read something (and now I can’t find it), that that rock on her finger would be worth about $3 million. The Donald supposedly gave it to her for their tenth anniversary (or the tenth time they had sex, probably).
Oh, I suppose if you are using brutally objective measures of conventional contemporary beauty standards then she would win. Okay, here’s your trophy, Melania. Thanks for playing.
But, for me, she nails a certain central-casting version of Eastern European Model/James Bond Assassin look that is not comforting or approachable. It says, “Do not talk to me, seely man, or I vill be forced to keel you.” To each his own.
That’s a very good picture of her. She looks a lot more “natural” than she usually does. Having said that, the rock on her finger is obscene. Less is more, Melania. Less really is more.
I must need the remedial course. I took a selfie and texted it to my gf. Apparently she’s having a bad day; the response I got was, “What the fuck did I do now?”
Melanie’s eyes used to be shaped completely differently. I suppose that’s plastic surgery, but I’m not sure why you’d want to change their shape that way.
I wish she hadn’t crossed her arms for the portrait. It definitely closes her off and gives her a stand-offish appearance. I think she did it solely to get the ring in the picture.
The gallery of first lady pictures was interesting. Jackie Kennedy was completely unrecognizable.
I am off to read about squinching. Who knew that was a thing?
I think she’s better looking in these pics. More natural. Less alien-like. Definitely more approachable.
I think Melania is pretty. I can see why people are attracted to her. But I’m so used to seeing her kind of look on magazine covers that it just doesn’t do anything for me.
I hope she actually does something of substance soon so I can start thinking of her as being something other than a high-end mail order bride.
I remember an article about Trump giving people fake diamonds as gifts, claiming they were real. Like, he’d wear fake diamond cufflinks, then take them off and give them out as if they were impulsive gifts. Then people would get them appraised and find out they were cheap CZ.
What I’m saying is, I bet that ring is worth closer to $3 than $3 million.
Pretty by First Lady standards, absolutely. Pretty in general, not really. (Maybe years ago but not currently)
There has only been two young first ladies and 1 daughter that acted as first lady that I can think of.
Mrs. Cleveland was not lovely, just youthful at age 21. The story behind this first lady is a little squicky by today’s standards. She was his ward that he raised.
Jefferson’s daughter acted as first lady and was in her 20s at the start of his term.
Squinching is hard. I’m not sure I see the payoff either (looking at the before and after pictures in the article). Oh well, there’s always something celebs are doing for the “it” look.
