Member???

He can have my “charter” if that’s the only way. My member is plenty enough for me.

Otherwise, he might wat to get one of these for his posterior. Prevents those nasty doorknob dents.

I will NOT prove my worth! You all honor the deal that we fairly made, or I will never speak of this board in good terms!

The FRICKIN NERVE to even ask! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Please, Skippy, update my profile, or update WTFever needs updating… as an EX-member. Or whatever a lapsed member is called. Just make sure I am no longer valid! Y’all can shove this board where the sun don’t shine!

We’re not asking you to “prove your worth,” if6was9; we’re just asking for a little information to help sort this out. If you’re not willing to provide us that information, then it makes the whole process a little more difficult.

That said, your case has been passed on to Jerry to see what he can find out about it. When he let’s us know what happened, then we’ll get in contact with you. And if you have any questions, feel free to shoot us an e-mail.

I’ve looked into the matter if6was9 and see that your current subscription was purchased on 5/18/2008 at 1:40 PM central time. The subscription deadline for Charter Member renewal in 2008 was 5/10/2008 at 12:00 PM central time. I’m afraid you missed the Charter Member resubscription deadline. By the time you resubscribed you had already had your membership status revert to Guest and your subscription pricing was set at the Member level of $14.95 instead of the Charter Member level of $7.48.

I’m sorry you missed the 2008 deadline but we have abided by our agreement with you in regards to Charter Membership. That agreement states Charter Members have to keep their original 2004 subscription active or they will revert to Member status upon any subsequent resubscription. Your 2004 subscription expired last May before you resubscribed.

Jerry

Let me see if I understand this. if6was9 missed keeping his Charter Member status by a WEEK (technically 8 days)? So, by this horrid error, he’s not only lost his “Charter Member” status forever, but his payment doubled to the “Member” level? I understand he went 4 miles over the speed limit, but was it necessary to double his insurance and take his drivers license and replace it with a permit for the rest of his days on the Dope?

Now THAT’S customer service. Kwality with a capital “K”. :dubious:

Give if6was9 his Charter Member status back. Or does this fall into the “annoy the subscribers until they stop paying membership fees” philosophy?

Yes, that’s the way it has been since day 1. This isn’t new, and if6was9 isn’t the first person to miss out by just a bit and lose the charter member status. Not a big deal, the rules haven’t changed and exceptions don’t need to be made.

And we did make exceptions the first year (and possibly the second) when people missed the renewal deadline. But, exceptions can’t go on forever, and you keep handing them out, you might as well not have a deadline in the first place.

Also, keep in mind that you don’t need to wait until the deadline to renew. If you choose to, you’re free to renew early. (I think you can only renew up to two years in advance, though.)

And we have had some people who missed by as little as a day and they didn’t get to keep it. Cry me a river.

I’m not crying anything. This seems to be important to some people, if6were9 being one of them. As has been mentioned, exceptions have been made in the past, in year one and possibly year two. What would it hurt?

It isn’t important to me. I wouldn’t pay to post, and I wouldn’t beg someone to pick up the tab for me either. But for someone to have paid from the beginning of pay-to-post, and being a true “Charter Member”, I think exceptions should be made. If someone started paying three years in, then fine… they are members. But for Pete’s sake, throw the guy a bone.

Rules around here change all the time. This costs the board nothing, and buys a little good will. But I guess when you have that Charter Member status, you want to separate yourself from the pack. Keep the club as small as possible, and if folks miss a deadline, too bad for them. As long as your in the big club, I guess that’s all that matters.

I have no dog in this fight. I just think it’s pathetic. But it’s your world, not mine.
Come to think of it, since another rule was changed, and I’ve been around for so long, I think a change in my sign-off is due.

That is, for him it was important enough that he berated the four staffers who tried to help and said he’ll never come back to the board again - even before his question was answered - but not important enough for him to bother looking for his confirmation email.

hmmm. Perhaps I am sticking up for the wrong poster, but I think the general point is still valid. I had no idea he reacted to the point of disappearing. See? It really DID mean something to him.

Since no one else seems to be complaining, and the poster in question is gone, I guess I’ll shut up.

nevermind

And I apologized to two of them, one here and one on email. I still don’t think I missed the deadline, but the numbers don’t lie I guess. Didn’t expect this harsh response from you Marley, but there ya go. I guess this board is too much for my delicate psyche. No apologies for what I’m thinking and not posting.
