Im pitting any member who registers their underage kid on the SDMB.
It’s against the rules, and it’s fucking lame.
All right.
Thanks.
Underage kids are not allowed on SMDB? I thought they just need parental permission to register. Or are you pitting parents who use their children as sock puppets?
Isn’t the rule you need to be 13?
if you can be under 13 and register, fair enough.
But if you register a child who can’t contribute, you are lame, and your child has lame parents.
No, by your analysis that would still only yield a child with one lame parent.
Or, if you prefer, 1/2 lame parents.
From the User agreement (emphasis added):
“Minimum age for registration on the SDMB is 13 years. Registrants found to be younger than 13 will have their posting privileges revoked and forfeit any subscription fees. SDMB content is intended for mature audiences; parents or guardians paying subscription fees for children aged 13 through 17 are responsible for determining whether the SDMB is a suitable environment for their child.”
Fair enough, it isn’t against the rules.
I guess im trying to say i find it pathetic for parents to register newborn babies (and kids clearly too young to contribute) to the boards.
It’s not cute for anyone but yourself, it’s just lame.
Two things I guess…
I don’t like the idea of kids signing up who are too young as well. It squicks me out. It’s not that I don’t think “kids” can’t contribute, not at all. I welcome the ideas and opinions of plenty of youngens, in fact, I can think of one in particular who is incredibly bright, smart, and funny. She’s the daughter of a regular, and get’s an A in my book.
But I guess it’s the availability of information in the age of creepy people looking for kids on the internet. I know a couple of members here who are rather young (not personally), and sometimes I read stuff and my TMI meter goes bling-bling-bling. Post all you want about your zits, your bowel regulaity, and what weirdo fetish you have all you want; as long as you’re old enough to vote I’ll eat it all up. But when someone starts posting stuff about locations and questions about some bad times with friends and family I cringe a bit.
First one to mention **SM **gets banned!
Yeah but in general if these kids have the internet they are gonna get what they want anyway.
This board isn’t the end of the world nor the greatest source of knowledge online. It’s just a board. Sometimes it’s very naive and innocent about alternative concepts.
Im talking about parents (sometimes two dopers) who have a child and create an account for them in a “cutesy” way. It’s the same as when celebrities give their babies stupid names.
I’m guessing you’re talking about Airman Doors and MsRobyn, as mentioned in this thread? That pissed you off enough to start a pit thread?
I must be thinking about some other boards. Usually other boards allow underage posters, but require parent’s authorisation.
Had we not gotten specific permission for what was essentially a joke, we surely would not have done so. Nevertheless, we did. I’m sure you will not begrudge MsRobyn and I our attempt to provide a little levity to the SDMB, right?
Okay, I kinda think that thing is cute.
Im pitting the fact that it’s fun and jokey for you and your wife to register your infant child on an internet message board.
I don’t imagine you care how i feel, and i imagine you think im a bit uptight about it.
I also imagine you laughing off this pit thread.
But im pitting the fact that it’s a light-hearted joke for your infant child to be signed up to the SDMB.
If that’s the kind of thing you chuckle about, well, i dunno, you really seem like ‘THOSE’ parents.
Y’know, I normally restrain myself from asking this question, because I’d end up asking it in about 85% of the threads both here and in GD…but it’s the holidays and I just can’t help myself:
Just why the living fuck do you care about this, again?
It just annoys me to see.
Is that ok?
It was six years ago. Please spare me and my family the drama.
Aaron was, to my knowledge, the first child born to two Dopers. We thought that something like that might be worth commemorating.
Out of all the things that I have said here, I am stunned that you picked this, of all things, to be upset about. Am I laughing? Not a bit. In fact, I am tired of being attacked for petty things. You want to attack me or Robin for things we have said, have at it. But a single post on behalf of our son? Get a grip.
Punintentional, you relly overuse the adjective, ‘lame’. if you used the term ‘handicapped’, wheelchair-ridden, using a crutch’ or ‘crippled’, it would convey the same message. Please think before you use such terms in the future, please.
Hey, it doesn’t have to be OK by me. I’m the last person on Earth anybody needs to be accountable to. I just don’t understand how people live out their entire lives taking notice of stuff like this and paying it enough attention to let it bother them. It’s nothing about your thread in particular, except insofar as complaining about the existence of a single unused account on an internet message board was petty enough that it led me to break my stance on asking why – or, more to point, HOW – people manage to care about this sort of thing. But, perhaps that’s another thread, so I leave you to this one without further comment.
On a brighter note, happy holidays to you and yours.
