I talk too much, and I’m an attention whore. My only areas of expertise are already covered here by people who know much more. My join date says Nov 2002 but all of my posts are from a 1-2 year period. I feel like Sokka on avatar during book three chapter four. ::bummed::
(bolding mine)
That explains my confusion I suffered for a moment when I just now glanced, for the first time, at your join date/post count. I thought, “Waitaminnit, the first time I recall seeing Auto’s name was when he made that great post in the Pit about his job, and that wasn’t that long ago … but that says he joined a few months before me and has a higher post count?!?”
I always figured the really high post counts belonged to the posters who spend a lot of time in GD.
96% of my posts have been pointless, 56% of posters know that.
It makes me think they have too much time on their hands.
What he said.
I’m a wise-ass and can’t resist taking a shot when the opportunity presents itself. I’m sure there are many who wish I would just STFU and go away. However, now that I’m retired, it ain’t going to happen anytime soon. SUCKERS!
But you’re such a lovable attention whore!!
Incidentally, I, too, was really surprised when I just looked at your join date.
Jesus, no – never go in there at all.
Me: I’m not afraid to throw in an offhand remark, and I participate in a lot of game threads.
All right.
Now we’re getting into different types of high post counts…
Auto joined awhile ago, but disappeared for a number of years, then went on a posting tear early on in 2007. He’s slowed down into a more laid back style since then.
Then we have the constant and consistent posters throughout all fora, like** Lil’ Jimmy** and** tdn**. There’s a GD crowd too I’m sure, but the closer we get to November the farther away I stay. Sure we get used to seeing a handful of people in specific forums too, I don’t think QED knows there are other forums besides ATMB, GQ, and the Pit ( I think he knows I’m ribbing him).
Some months I see Sapo & lobmob everywhere, then suddenly they’re gone. Sometimes they come back, sometimes they don’t.
Also, this isn’t the only message board on the internet. There are those boards that tend to branch out from other members here. ** Una’s**, Skip’s, Opal’s. I see a number of people posting over there a lot, but then it’s a treat when I see them occasionally post here. SF & KarlGrenze come to mind.
And as Lil’ Jimmy pointed out** ivan** (phonetically pronounced as “Aaaaayeeeiii” in my head) has a relatively low count, but high posting percentage per day.
Your resident name-dropping whore,
bbs2k
That would be brilliant.
I post a lot here sometimes and sometimes not. I don’t think post count can be seen as a true marker of wit, intelligence or trollery. I post all over the place sometimes, but my true home is the MMP in MPSIMS. I think I’ve been in the games forum once. I tend to stay away from GD because I don’t have time (usually) to dedicate to building a painstaking argument or rebuttal. (or patience, to be honest). It’s been raining here all weekend and I’m bored to tears–my post count is way high this weekend.
Lil’ Jimmy? really? Really!?
As to the GD high count posters:
**Sam Stone, Diogenes the Cynic, Brain Glutton **and **John Mace **come to mind immediately. The last three also post at rates close to mine and have been doing it much longer. Holy shit, **Brain Glutton **past me. He is at 16.78 posts per day.
Well, that was kinda my point in the first place–a high post count can mean many things because there are all different ways tht one can end up with a high post count.
You’ll get no argument from me on that! :dubious:
A high post count tells me “in between”. The person could be contributing lots and lots of helpful information on a variety ot topics, or could be a loquacious asshat, or could just be friendly and likes getting involved, like me.
The one who will get the most out of their posting - and contribute the most to others - is the one who is interested in what others are talking about because others are talking about it. As anyrose says, the one who “likes getting involved,” no matter what folks are “involved” in.
It totally depends on the poster. There are posters here with mega-high post counts who post nothing but garbage that contribute nothing to any conversation. There are other posters with high counts who couldn’t post enough - everything they post is interesting to me.
I do actually try to contribute things worth reading, but mostly I post to amuse myself. I try not to just blather. I suspect it still happens sometimes.
Aww, I love it when you talk about me that way!
Actually, I thought I had a high post count, but I just haven’t been looking at other people’s counts lately. Compared to most of the people in this thread, I’m a piker!
A while back, someone ranked current posters by post count. (The highest post count got #1, etc.) I think he did the top 50. I was pretty high up, but I don’t think I’d be any longer. Anyone remember that or know how he did it.
Handy pissed a lot of people off with his drive by posts, and pissed the mods off with the medical stuff. He probably deserved his banning, but am I the only person here who kinda liked the guy? Those one-liners were often quite dry.
If you google this, you will probably find an answer.
I’ve posted about once every five days for the past seven years. I try not to post unless I have something to add or if a particuarly witty and sophisticated joke occurs to me. So that’s not too often.
