Men: How many times have you worn a tux?

Poll coming.

Oh me? I’ve worn a tux on four occasions: Two black-tie banquets, and two weddings (one of which was mine).

I bought my own if that tells you anything.

two times, that I recall. My high school prom and my second marriage. Both were disasters.

Is this a matter of opinion?

Three. My senior prom, another prom a girl asked me to, and my sister’s wedding (when I was a member of the wedding party).

It’s a poll, and this is the forum for polling.

Never. I can recall one occasion when I was supposed to wear one, turned up in a regular suit and wasn’t turned away.

That was a bit rude of me, violating the dress code and all. These days I’m not so young and stupid , and would simply decline the invitation altogether.

Buncha weddings, around 7 or 8. Other than that, never.

About seven or eight times, maybe.

One notable occasion: I was the best man at my friend’s wedding in Houston, then had to go right from the all-night part to the airport in the morning to go home. When I arrived in New York, I went to some art exhibit with my uncle, and I was still wearing the tux. My uncle joked, “If you’re here for the Million Man March, sorry, but you missed it…it was a month ago!”. (Indeed, that event had taken place about a month previously).

Just once, to my wedding.

I’m not sure. More than 25, but probably less than 50.

The standard performance dress (for men) in my choir is black tie/dinner suit. As a quick estimate, I’d have worn a dinner suit on approximately 800 occasions.

Never.

I own 8 suits of formal wear, dinner jackets, white tie & tails, kilts, victorean, top hat, 2 opera capes (count 'em two!) and I could tie a bow tie!

I loved dressing up.

Not once. But I don’t vote in public polls.

My chorus gives at least 3 concerts a year, with 2-3 performances for each concert. We always wear tuxes for our December holiday concert, sometimes for the others. Also some other events throughout the year. I joined the chorus in 1995. That puts me over 50, although in haste I clicked on 21-50.

That’s part of why I don’t vote even in noncontroversial polls if they’re public. I too on occasion have clicked on a wrong choice. No need to have that hanging out there giving the wrong impression.

I wore one for a friend’s wedding. I wore a suit to my own wedding.

I answered “21-50”, but on reflection I probably should have said “50+”.

I’ve been to a handful of proms and weddings, but I also play tuba in a number of amateur groups for which the typical performance attire is a tuxedo. I wear a tux more frequently than I do a suit.
