I was saying something about benefit dinners in another thread and it made me realize that it’s been over a year since I dragged my tux out. I used to attend formal events four or five times a year, but this past year has been, for many reasons, barren of those events. My wife and I went to the AFCEA charity ball for the NIH Children’s Inn last April. Since then… nada.
I have never worn a tuxedo. I still wear a suit, usually for funerals and weddings.
I wore one once, to my friend’s wedding. I was in the wedding party.
In May, when my oldest daughter got married. Before that, I’m guessing not since my own wedding some thirty-one years ago.
Looks like I’m going to rent another one in about a year; my other daughter just got engaged.
I’m not sure. I may have worn one to a cousin’s wedding back in 97. If I didn’t, it’s been since I was 5, which was 24 years ago.
It’s been more than six years now. I bought it new in '01, and wore it 22 times.
I looove wearing evening gowns, and I never get the opportunity! I did wear one to a friend’s Vegas-themed 30th birthday last year, which was “formal dress if you want to”, and some other people did as well but nobody went as formal as I did. Before that, on a cruise ship, maybe four years ago.

I bought a decent-looking bridesmaid dress for my friends’ wedding in the summer of 2000, and I wore it again to an event in the winter of 2000.
That’s it.
I wear a suit (well, if a blazer with vest and tie counts as a suit) from time to time (for no particular reason) but I’ve never worn a tuxedo.
An inaugural ball last year. I think I may go to a ball in November, though.
I was a bridesmaid in, I don’t know, maybe 2000. That must have been the last time I wore something formal. I’ve never worn formal attire for an occasion other than a wedding, unless you count prom and I’m still trying to block those memories.
Firm’s Christmas party last December. It was the day of the December snow in DC, and out of about 600 people there were around 50 of us there.
I’m surprised not to have worn it so far this year, but all the weddings I have been to have been afternoon ones.
I’m in a lot of weddings that involve renting tuxes for coordination (rip off!). In every other formal occasion I’ve worn a suit (work christmas parties, weddings, etc). I avoid like the plague any party invitation that is formal or tux (like new years).
About a month ago for a charity ball. We were the guests of a consulting company that works with my husband’s company. Otherwise every year for my FIL’s club’s Christmas party.
Well, not counting weddings (bridesmaid in 2003, got married myself in 2001), I last wore a formal gown at a New Year’s Eve party in 1999. It was at the Smith Tower in Seattle and was a great time. I still have the dress but have no idea when I would ever be called on to wear it again.
