Men! When Will These Things Be BACK In Style?

You sure he’s not American? All that macho posturing…

I’ve noticed that, in addition to the Nation of Islam crowd, young Conservative men (see: Tucker Carlson and his ilk) are wearing more bow ties. It seems to be a badge of honor. Just an observation.

I seem to remember Sen. Paul Simon wearing one, especially during his aborted run for the presidency.

Um, actually that’s the one exception.

Guys still wear bowties-they just wear them with formal wear.

I’d love to carry a ciggie holder-and I don’t even smoke! Just so I could be like Audrey in Breakfast at Tiffanys!

I wear a bowtie four days a week - I own about thirty of them.

I have a fedora - this very one, in fact.

I own a number of three-piece suits, so vests are not uncommon for me. And since I do a fair number of formal functions, I also have several pairs of matching vests and bowties, because that’s a cool look.

Oh no. You’re that kind of attorney. Do you own any seersucker?

I haven’t read the whole thread but I will , meanwhile…
Damn, I must be out of touch w/ vogue.

I wear a hat every day, either a straw or a Stetson.
I have a beard, trimmed short and neat very thick, blond/brown and soft.
I usually wear a vest, leather of course.
I like my faded Wrangler jeans a bit tight. (no baggies)
My boots, not so tight.

When I go out where dress codes apply, I’ll grab my black double-breasted jacket, my GOOD Stetson and my gold pocket watch.

I work hard outside everyday. So, I’ve usually got a good tan and good tone. Blue eyes too.
So, just how bad is it? Do I need to get an extreme makeover or what?

Nah, you live in Texas, I think that’s the uniform.

Fortunately, photos don’t carry the stink of a mass of sweating men wearing wool suits under the Australian sun.

I have to wear a suit to work.

<looks aside> Hey, 29C degrees today (84F) – and it’s still spring! Good thing I have this frikkin’ neck-tie on!

A two-piece wool suit is terribly unpractical for our climate, but we’re stuck with it. Fortunately, three-piece suits (except formal wear) are never seen. It’s also acceptable to wander about the office and attend internal meetings without wearing a jacket.

I wear a straw cowboy hat in summer – particularly to concerts and raves – but it’s entirely tongue-in-cheek. The shade is nice, but mainly I like the attention.

Bricker, that site is GREAT. Cloches, pillbox hats…drool

beards (non-muslims)

Still popular among some college professors, Unix gurus, and the zymurgy/beer connoisseur crowd.

bowties

Popular among eccentric college professors and high school teachers.

berets

I’ve increasingly seen them among the hipster doofus/emo crowd.

**hats (no, NOT baseball caps)[/v]

You mean 1950s “take the 7:12 New Haven to work on Madison Avenue” fedoras? Probably something that will probably be adopted among hipster doofuses in a few years.

I’m wondering about the return of Hitler moustaches.

How about those nifty straw “boater” hats? I have a picture of my late grandfather in one…he looked really cool?
Can you still buy them?

I gotta second that.

They’re sexy. I think it’s the Freudian symbolism…

Alas, the high-end holders seem to be only available in Europe…perhaps one can contact their friendly neighborhood tobacconist to arrainge importing a few for their prefferred customers?

I’ve got a co-worker that wears bowties most of the time to work. I can’t help but think “Can you pass me the popcorn, Orville?” I’m afraid that except for formal attire, these should not make a comeback.

I’ve been hemming and hawing on buying an inverness cape for myself though, but really don’t want all of the Sherlock Holmes ribs.

Yes. I priced one a few years ago when I was going to have a 1920s croquet party on the lawn. I think they cost about $80.

This wouldn’t be you, would it?

I might have to give a try to a News Boy cap. Kinda like a cross between a baseball cap and a beret and very American.

Dude, mark that shit “Not Safe for Work” next time, would you please?

and no, I don’t mean the Siegel’s store site. :stuck_out_tongue:

Many thanks for that timely warning, Olentzero.
