Men, where do you like your pants to rest on you?

This survey is intended to cover what you like, not necessarily what certain pairs of pants force you to do. In my younger days I would have acknowledged that one’s jeans probably fit one differently than one’s suit trousers do; nowadays I don’t think that’s very true.

As for me, I am both old and fat. I am not one of those who have a huge belly and tiny hips (for which I am grateful), rather I am big all over. I wear my pants close to my navel for 2 reasons: if I cinch the belt below my belly, it makes my belly look even bigger, which I don’t like; and if I just rest them on my hips I don’t feel confident that they won’t fall down completely. It’s unnerving and I don’t know how some men deal with that feeling. I guess my third reason is that I care less about style than I ever have before in my life, which was never very much.

So how do you like it, pants-wise? And why?

Between the hips and navel…aka my waist.

I’m not quite 50 (yet!!!) and generally about the same weight as when I finished growing around 21-22. That weight is a bit less muscle mass and a little more softness elsewhere, including my belly, but no major changes in size.

The shortest way to explain myself here is that the OP appears to have cloned me, and I want my DNA back.

I’m not sure I have a choice in the matter. If I cinch my pants up above my hips, they will immediately fall down to my hips. And below my hips, they will fall off completely. I have to wear a belt or else the waist diameter is too high to stay up (particularly on hot days, when the waist might stretch out an inch or so from sweat).

When I was young, all people wore their slacks around the navel and so I did. Now I have a distinct waistline and that is the only place my belt will hold up my pants. The look of someone with a beer belly and the belt below it is derisory. But I have to buy pants in something called the classic fit.

I detest wearing a belt. Therefore my pants typically will slide down to my hips. I do not like them there. I solve it by wearing suspenders. Especially at work where I do a lot of bending and reaching. No need to expose my plumbers butt to the women folk.

Unlike the OP, I am one of those men with a huge (at least pretty large) belly and tiny hips. If I wore my pants where they would naturally fit best, they would be two inches below my nipples. That works out to roughly an 18" rise. Since I’ve never seen pants like that outside of clown college, everything is a compromise.

I wasn’t sure how to define where a man’s waist is. It seems to me to be at the top of the inguinal crease, or where the inward curve of the hips stops, which is pretty darn close to the level of the navel in most men, I think. Are you defining the waist as lower down than that?

You gave me a good laugh! Thanks

If I wore my pants up on my belly, I’d look like a Weeble.

My belt hits at the top of my pelvic bone, about an inch or so below the navel. Anywhere else feels uncomfortable.

Resting on top of the pelvic bone, although this is getting progressively less comfortable as I’ve gotten more of a beer belly over the years.

I only wear shorts with elastic waist.

I wear them around the naval. but they immediately fall to my hip bone. And because I have no butt, they will fall to my knees. Which is embarrassing.

I thing suspenders would be a great idea.
