Hello! We’re going to my sister’s wedding in July in northern Australia. I’m head bride’s lady (smug, and indisposed to the term “matron”). It’s going to be a casual event at the beach.
What should my husband wear? He has some khakis, but we just donated all his (old, and rather awful) shirts. I don’t think he can pull off a Hawaiian shirt, as he’s all nerdy with the giant hair and glasses and everything…
We went to Kohl’s yesterday and gave up after 10 minutes. Why are all the shirts there the same?
So, some kind of plaid? What fabric should we look for - a linen? A silk? He probably wants short sleeves (it’s going to be hot) and something that’s intended to be untucked. Is a “camp shirt” the right cut? We’re happy to buy online, or try on in the Bay Area (South Bay preferred).
Can you find something made in Mexico, Cuba, India, Pakistan, or Tibet? A short-sleeved button-up shirt from one of those places would probably be awesome.
You should look for a camp shirt if you want it untucked, or any shirt with a square tail. You need to stay away from any shirt that has tails which are too long and meant to be worn only tucked in. That’s going to make a camp shirt work, but other random shirts you just need to try on.
If you go with linen get a cotton/linen blend. Even that will probably wrinkle too much. It’s an inherently wrinkly fabric and being wrinkled is an essential part of the look but I have a hunch that either you or your husband would find it too sloppy looking and be unhappy with it.
Try looking for a nice cotton shirt in a lightweight summery poplin weave.
Well, for a start, where in northern Australia? Northern Queensland or Northern Territories?
My niece got married 2 years ago in Kuranda, near Cairns, QLD. It was in July, and most men wore smart trousers and long sleeved shirts, mostly cotton or cotton mixes. July is one of the coolest months and it can get quite cold at night.
Short sleeve shirts to a wedding? Well depends on the class of people attending but in my opinion a nice white/cream LONG sleeve linen shirt would cover you for most weddings and being loose and linen will be comfortable in the humidity of NT.
But given some of the people i know in NT you may as well a wear a bluey singlet!
