Mental health situation of a person who plays the same damed 7 or 8 songs over and over daily?

My daughter played her One Direction CD so much that it actually stopped working. I didn’t even know that was possible. I just feel bad that her younger brother has to be subjected to that too (they share a room). He’s going to need therapy when he gets older.

Im not sure which person is suffering from a mental health situation. . . your soon to be divorced spouse who seems content with her 8 songs, or her husband who seems to be at his “wits end” and in my observation is exhibiting signs of anxiety and rage. Seems obvious to me. Perhaps a solution to the “immaturity and fucking weirdness” would be for you to make a mature decision to have a discussion, or come to some negotiation regarding airspace. If not, get her earbuds for Christmas.

Thanks. I’ll get right on that.

The only damed songs I listen to are when Heart covers Led Zeppelin in concert.

Don’t worry - it’s only temporary insanity, with an end date.

Which is to say, yeah, you do sound a bit irritated, but for a very good reason.

“Please Mister Please, Don’t Play B-17!”

She’s at it again.

(Twitch. Twitch.)

I think at one time I had a song that had been played over 1000 times in my itunes. And that was racked up in just a month or two. I am a notorious offender of listening to the same song on repeat for hours at a time, or alternatively, a small group of songs over and over.

I only do this with headphones on or when I am alone though

What songs are they, Leaffan? I’m dying to know!

I don’t know them all. There’s:

Taylor Swift - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
Carley Jepsen - Call Me Maybe
Nicki Minaj - Starships
And a handful of similar songs that I can’t find on Google 'cause I have no idea what the lyrics are and who the “artist” is.

This might provide some insight:

Why you like to watch the same thing over and over

No insight for me. I very rarely if ever watch a movie more than once. What’s the point? I know the ending.

*The band in Heaven plays my favorite song
They play it once again, play it all night long
*—Talking Heads

These lines are deliberate irony, because anyplace where the same song was repeated endlessly, no matter how much you may like it, would become seriously hellish.

I’ve heard of some radio station that for a 24-hour period played “Stairway to Heaven” over and over and over. Much as I love that song, I’ve never understood how on earth anyone could take that without going stark barking mad, let alone why anyone would want to do that. Way to destroy any shred of possibility of ever wanting to listen to it ever again.

No. The appropriate song would be Shakaron

She got to be starting something. Sounds like the opposite of a PYT.

Two words. Justifiable homicide.

I heard that piece. It was kind of a sweet thing she had with her favorites on it, and IIRC it was almost worn out in a literal sense. If it had PSY, Carly Rae, or Minaj on it though, it would be pillow to the face time. I ain’t even playin’.

I just spent the last 6-8 weeks listening to a particular ‘Chicago’ album over and over (and skipping the songs I didn’t care for).

I listened to it at least 3 days a week, and usually twice a day, while driving to and from work, and at a very high volume. ‘Chicago’ just likes to be loud.

I was wondering if that was nuts, but it really helped to set my mood for the work day, or helped unwind after a long day, and I often enjoyed listening to it in different ways. Sometimes I’d focus on the whole sound, and sometimes just the vocals, or just the bass line, or just the brass, etc.

It was feeling a little OCD (which is an asset in my job- I like to say ‘I only use my powers for good!’), but I decided it was a harmless or even helpful OCD, so decided to not worry about it.

The only other album I have done this with is David Grisman and Stephane Grappelli ‘Live’, which I have listened to for many, many years, also often in intense jags. I have tried to memorize that album in case I ever go deaf.

Is that odd?

I don’t think so.

Yup. I have 9 measures that I am working on for banjo. I’ll play them for hours at a time. My Wife lets me live because I’m a good cook.
