Mercy - TV Show - Sucks Rocks

So I saw a new medical drama was on tonight, hit record, came back to watch it. It’s supposed to be a show from the nurses’ point of view. Okay, sounds intriguing. We’ve had doctors out the yin-yang, so this is something new.

What a load of crap.

Nurse 1 is a twenties lady who spent time in Iraq. She’s back, and her estranged husband is harassing her at work. Apparently he cheated on her when she was away, and now is trying to get back together, but she doesn’t want any of it. So then she goes home and we meet her drunk-ass parents (including Kate Mulgrew, for those who care). And her brother, who proceeds to point out that she’s a hypocrite, because she also cheated while she was in Iraq. But she’s busy rationalizing that with being in a war zone and worried if she was going to live through it, etc. So then she lets the husband lead her somewhere blindfolded, and finds it’s a house he bought to fix up, and she tries to tell him it’s over again, but they have a conversation where he explains that when they just got married then she got called up to active duty and he took it personally, like she couldn’t wait to get away from him. So he realizes he was stupid and wants to make up with her and that they belong together, and she accepts and they get reengaged.

So the very next day, a young doctor shows up and they go see a patient together. Then afterwards they are talking business and suddenly drag each other into a supply closet - turns out – you guessed it – it’s the doctor from Iraq. Ugh. I had to fastforward through that scene. So then she’s madly in love with him, but then getting back with her husband.

Nurse 2 is a young new grad with a Masters’ degree, but no experience (Michelle Trachtenburg, i.e. Dawn from Buffy, for those taking notes). So the first job they give her, the senior nurse takes her in to a room with an elderly man and says that she has to turn off all the equipment and call the morgue. But the heart monitor is still showing activity. It’s sporadic, but still beating a bit. So she sits there not knowing what to do, till the other nurses come along and ask if she wants to go get a drink with them, and she says he’s still alive. So they check the chart and confirm what they know, then proceed to turn off the machines and the heart monitor goes flatline. The one of them pronounces time of death. WAIT A FREAKING MINUTE!! Wasn’t he already dead? I thought the stuff on the monitor was sporadic crap, not a sign he was still “alive”? So wouldn’t he have already been pronounced dead?
Nurse 3 is the black lady. She starts out getting text messages from a lawyer she went out with but not returning them, because she’s trying to build up suspense or something, and she’s all bragging about how he’s got a 7 figure income and is not broke like all the other guys she dated. So in comes a couple patients from a shooting and a cop, who she immediately gets testy with, which is of course an invitation for him to start flirting heavily. Anyway, things go along, and she’s supposed to go out with lawyer, but one of the patients is the criminal who shot the other, so he tricks her to getting close and grabs her and she fights him off, and then the cop rescues her. Anyway, she can’t to the function with the lawyer, her dress got torn and she got punched in the face. So she ends up at the bar, and then the cop shows up, and suddenly they’re rushing back to her place (presumably - I didn’t stick around to find out). That’s when I turned it off.
I was thinking it was going to be a medical show, turns out it’s Grey’s Anatomy for nurses. Bleh. Delete, no recordo.

Have you seen Nurse Jackie? I bet you’d like it. It’s the polar opposite of what you describe, which sounds like it blew monkey chunks. I’m glad I missed it.

I’m a nurse, and definitely would not watch that show (the name even makes me want to vomit–oooh–“mercy”–fk me!) I think “Nurse Jackie” is fantastic, & while not totally accurate, is as close as it gets on tv.

I made it to the scene in the bar. I think that was about 20 minutes in.
It was truly awful…
