I just got an email from our payroll department. They’ve been taking out city taxes in our checks - however, we work in a neighboring township, not the city. So we’re being issued refunds for 2006 for the taxes paid to the city, the check was mailed out today from our national office in Texas, and I expect it to arrive Saturday or Tuesday!
What a nice Christmas surprise! Now we have to decide if we actually want to be irresponsible for once and just spend it on something big, or put it towards our bills and savings like responsible grown-ups. For once, I’d just like to blow some cash, especially after the year we’ve had, but the adult in me is trying to be good.
How much money are we talking about here? I mean, you don’t have to say it down to the penny, but is it more along the lines of “Ooh, hubby and I can go out to a nice restaurant,” or “Ooh, we could pay next month’s mortgage and car note with this?”
It’s a nice chunk of change. We couldn’t quite pay the mortgage with it, but it would pay most of it.
We’ll probably each take about $100 from it and spend it on ourselves, and put the rest in savings. It’s just a nice thought to think about blowing a wad of cash :D.
I think that’s the plan. Actually, we’re hoping to find a bigger car for me in January, so we’ll just put it towards that. We’re about to write a check to pay off the last of our credit card bills, so for once, we’re actually ahead. I think it’s just nice to have the OPTION to blow it without it affecting anything else, you know?
