First, here’s a link:
CNN.com - Fire in Colorado National Park Reaches Native American Land.
This fire is about 50-60 miles west of where I live, and it’s 5% contained. Conditions haven’t improved here since the Los Alamos fire to the south-- it’s dry as a bone and hot as hell, and there’s no rain in the forecast for the entire week. You can imagine how closely I’m following this fire.
But what gets me is something in the local news . . . they have archaeologists with the firefighters SO THEY CAN SEE IF THE FIREFIGHTERS ARE DAMAGING ANY RUINS WHILE THEY’RE FIGHTING THE FIRE! They WON’T LET the firefighters cut fire breaks on park land because they might damage artifacts!
Now, dammit, I can understand these people wanting to protect the artifacts but if the house burns down because they won’t cut the stupid fire breaks I’m going to be EXTREMELY ticked off, to say the least! What gives here? Since when is some friggin’ clay pot more important than a taxpayer’s HOUSE?
