Mesotherapy - Science or Quackery

Mesotherapy… supposedly is a procedure by a doctor where chemicals are injected in fatty areas, where in the chems force fat out of the cells so that fat is burned/removed.

From what I know, it’s ‘big’ in France, is finding it’s way to the U.S. and beyond that I don’t know much (about mesotherapy, ahem).

Randi.org and Skeptic.com had nothing on it, as well as a few other sites I check as habit.

Of course, if you do a search you’ll find nothing but websites promoting it. Right now, I’ll say that for me the ‘jury is out’ on whether this is a alternative medicine/quackery, science or something else.

Dopers, if you know, please advise as I’m sure someone is going to have to get around to giving everyone the straight dope on this procedure.

According to patients ‘it’s melting the inches away’…as much as 6-7 from the waist in a few months. :dubious:

Got dope on this?

Claim.

I would think that the tipoff would be the use of the term “homeopathic”. Mesotherapy can apparently bill itself as “FDA approved” because the “homeopathic substances” are “FDA approved”.

Quackwatch sez there’s not much you can do about cellulite, so I doubt whether injecting “homeopathic substances” would help, although there isn’t any info specifically on mesotherapy.

WebMD - Better information. Better health.?

There’s also another “fat-burning injection” therapy out there called “Lipostabil” which is not approved by the FDA. It uses lecithin instead of “homeopathic substances”.

Uh huh. So, gee, go on a diet and watch the fat melt off, what an innovative idea. And you could skip the 100 injections, too…
