Last night I decided to specifically search for “Mexican porn”, as opposed to simply “latina porn”. I was rather surprised to come across a whole bunch of video clips in which the participants were all wearing masks of one type or another. The masks were mostly worn over the eyes and nose, but one video had the male actor wearing a full-head Bill Clinton mask.
What’s up with that? I could think of three possibilities:
This is somehow related to the popularity of masked professional wrestlers in Mexico.
Because Mexico is so heavily Roman Catholic, the performers prefer to not be recognized.
The most worrisome: the actors are masked because there are underage participants in the scenes.
I haven’t searched specifically for Mexican porn, but the few I have come across that have masks, it is the man who has the mask and the woman is maskless. It reminded me of a documentary I saw years ago, and can’t remember the title and haven’t been able to find again.
One scene, possibly one of the earliest examples had a man and woman outside by a tree. The man appeared to be wearing a false nose and mustache. The woman within a few seconds was completely nude and again without any type of disguise to conceal hers face. The impression I got from the show, and I may be off base, was that the man didn’t want to be recognized. The woman, it didn’t matter if she was seen fully and recognized.
If both are in masks I just assume neither want to be recognized. Or perhaps the viewers have some kind of fetish where seeing a face spoils it for them.
Bukkake videos feature a bunch of guys wearing sunglasses, masks, ski masks and even hockey masks - so they look like a bunch of wanna-be Jason Voorhees types who decided to use a different weapon.
The former. There are women who have managed to run successful fetish porn sites without ever revealing their faces, which I imagine comes in handy if they ever want to run for President of the Homeowners Association (which was a real issue for two women I know of).
Far as I can tell from, um, in depth sociological studies masks are a common staple of amateur porn for rather obvious reasons (be it actual amateurs or “amateur”/“reality” porn), regardless of country. Particularly when it comes to group sex, for some reason. Maybe the stigma of being broadcast on the Internet boning a random hot chick is less than that of one’s banker recognizing Sloppy #23 ?
I’ve certainly seen masks in porn before, and as you mention they’re common in group scenes. I’ve seen them most often in gangbang or bukkake scenes involving large numbers of men. In those cases, it’s pretty obvious (in a number of ways) that most of the men aren’t professional porn actors — they’re probably guys who replied to an ad and are doing it for kicks. And, of course, masks aren’t unusual in BDSM/fetish porn.
But I’ve looked at plenty of porn from all over the world, and have done country-specific searches plenty of times. It wasn’t until I specifically searched for “Mexican porn” that the masks started showing up in straightforward, vanilla, not-rough-in-any-way scenes.
OTOH, upon further review I see that several of these clips all came from the same web site, so maybe it’s just this particular outfit’s schtick.
Masked men with undisguised women seems perfectly logical to me. You want the women to be undisguised because after all, the audience is buying the stuff to look at pretty women. Meanwhile, you mask the guy because the guy in a porno exists solely as a stand-in for the viewer, and so you want him to be completely undistinguishable so that ever viewer can visualize himself as him.
Having never seen this masked mexican porn, that would be my first guess. To call masked luchadores popular is a hell of an understatement. It’s all tied up with their supposed aztec heritage or something of that sort. To lose your mask, even in a scripted event, is a huge shame. I can easily see some porn producer trying to connect to that sort of cultural phenomena. Like how superhero movies all get porn parodies in the states.
I should have also mentioned that the masks aren’t ski masks, or other cheap/improvised masks. They (other than that full-head Clinton mask) look more like the types of stylized masks you’d see at a fancy, old-fashioned costume ball, concealing only the upper half of the person’s face.
In general, without regard to religion or wrestling, Mexican culture has a significant pudor/modesty/shame component, and the actors would be horrified at the prospect that friends, neighbors, parents, etc. might see the cochinadas they’re engaging in.
That said, there are plenty of local amateur sites where you can see mask-less Mexican faces, among other Mexican things.
This is actually why, if my porn has to have men in it, I like the Japanese way where they pixelate the penis.
Of course, they pixelate the vulva, too, but that’s like number three or lower on my favorite female body parts, so it’s not that bad. The reactions are what do it for me, not the closeups.
While looking at the web site in question, looking at one particular actress, the site mentions that the young lady is a prostitute who works regularly in a “gentleman’s club”. It also mentions that she’s an 18-year-old high school student who still lives with her parents. So I guess the mask is understandable.
On another mask front, I just last night stumbled upon some Japanese porn that features “schoolgirls”. This is uncensored stuff (i.e. no pixellation on genitals), and while the young women are unmasked, the male actors are masked. And curiously, the male actors, despite their masks, are clearly non-Japanese. Which brings me again to point #3 in my OP: maybe the “schoolgirls” in the scenes really are schoolgirls. They don’t act like “normal” Japanese AV actresses (the high-pitched squeaking, etc.).
