Miami Juvenile Jail Official Told Dying Teen To 'Suck It Up'

We’re not talking about your belief that one flavor of ice cream is superior to another. We’re talking about your belief that a 17 year old kid deserved to die in extreme agony, knowing that people around him could have helped but chose not to. If you truly believe that, you deserve every bit of derision you’ve seen here.

Fush, you picked a fight and got your ass handed to you. “Suck it up.”

If a prison fails to feed or water a prisoner, and he dies, is it not their fault because they didn’t literally kill him?

If a prison denies insulin shots required for a diabetic, and he dies, is it not the fault of the prison, because they didn’t kill him, his own body killed him?

What sort of sense does that make?!

The prison has a medical staff. They are required to look after the health and well being of the prisoners. They ignored that duty and, because of their blatant lack of regard, a young man died. It makes absolutely no difference if he was a criminal. If you run someone over when you drink and drive, you are just as culpable whether it’s a 3 year old toddler or a blackhearted white supremacist. They caused someone to die because they did not care enough to bother with him!

Yo shitstain! Was he even sentenced yet? Or was he was still in the “innocent until proven guilty” category? Unless I’m reading this wrong, it doesn’t say–NOT THAT IT FUCKING MATTERS. Also, he cut his neighbor with a soda can which sounds to me like a kid with a stupid temper tantrum more than a vicious criminal. It’s not even like he stabbed the guy with a knife or something.

As someone who has had appendicitis, I can tell you that it is agonizingly painful–and mine didn’t burst! Faking it? HE WAS VOMITING AND SHITTING HIMSELF! He should have been sent to the Emergency Room END OF STORY. Let them do the proper tests and then decide if he is faking it. Worst case? He’s faking it and he wasted a few people’s time. I think that’s well worth it considering the alternative.

I have a lot of other things I could say to you, but I feel dirty just talking to you at all and frankly, you aren’t worth my getting worked up over.

More likely he’d sit there frantically yanking on his tiny little weiner with his eyes rolled back in his head in orgasmic bliss. The guy’s fucking sick.

Is there any chance a link of this thread can be sent to fush’s superior so he can know what kind of person he has in his ranks, ESPECIALLY if said person thinks he may be up for a medal or promotion in the near future?

Just because you can shoot a gun real good-like, does not make you a good American.

Jesus, you step away for a few days and you miss a huge trainwreck. At first I had some choice words for Fush, but as I read on and on, everything became more surreal.

I don’t know what to say, you are totally broken in the head.

LlamaPoet, do not mistake me for an apologist for fushj00mang, but I would ask that you abandon that idea. It was first put forth over the weekend on the Pit thread devoted to him (see a post by Seige on page two of this thread). Without getting too deeply into the reasons why right here, let’s just say it’s a bad idea.

Oh, and Opal, as to your first post of late yesterday evening, the young man was not in any type of pre-trial status at the time of his arrival in the detention facility. Not that that makes any difference, I just thought since you questioned his status, you might wish to know what it was.

I, too, would like to nip any real-world tattling in the bud, LlamaPoet. People on these boards confess to all kinds of things, from traffic violations to drug use to parking in fire lanes, from misogynism to transvestitism to fursuiting, in the interest of dispelling ignorance. I don’t want to see this board dry up because people are afraid to talk about their real-world actions and opinions in the fear that someone with an axe to grind might somehow chase this digital confession back to a real person. No matter how I feel about this matter, this is not a good can of worms to open.

I do not care for fushj00mang’s opinion, but having an opinion isn’t a crime. By having an opinion he is not supporting the Constitution with his words but that’s a far cry from having let this kid die himself. Whether his actions meet the standard of promotion as an officer is not something I am fit to judge.

I agree 100% What happens here should stay here, period.

fushj00mang is a fuckface. This much has been obvious for quite a while. Now, with more of his horrifying opinions brought to light in this thread, it’s clear he’s a fuckface of the highest order.

It might be sad and tragic that someone could be so stupidly proud of his pig-eyed ignorance, but hey, we need somebody to hold down the other end of the bell curve.

Indeed! The man serves a highly useful purpose here, and should be cherished for it: Making everyone else on the board look good. Now, no matter how drivelous a bit of glurge I post, I can sit back and relax, safe in the knowledge that there’s always someone else I can point to and say “See? You think I’m bad?!?”

On a serious note: He’s not alone in thinking like that, which is something we ought to keep in mind, on the board and in real life. Sorta like staying alert for dogshit when you walk along the boulevard of lfe. At least his pile is out in the open, steaming and reeking, so it’s easy to sidestep. It’s the concealed crap, hidden in the innocent-looking grass, that’ll slime you if you’re not keeping an eye out for it.

Yes, I agree – that’s quite enough of that metaphor.

Hope to god fush re-takes his first aid course.

You know what an acute abdomen is?
That kid had one.

Since the differential dianosis includes appendicitis, bowel obstruction, pancreatitis, kidney stones, a strangulated hernia, splenic rupture, acute flare up of IBD and some very nasty GI infections (which could all lead to sepsis, shock and death if untreated) he should have been examined at the very least, and not by a nurse.

Just because someone doesn’t have “textbook” appendicitis symptoms doesn’t mean that they have NOTHING going on.

Your abdomen contains more than your damn appendix, and people aren’t textbooks.

The irony is that at the detention facility, a decent examination by a nurse would have been quite sufficient. A competent nurse doing a limited physical exam would quickly have diagnosed “possible acute abdomen” and ordered the kid transferred to the ER - and that’s all it would have taken to save his life. She didn’t HAVE to diagnose his appendicitis; all she had to do was to recognise that the kid was really sick, and that he needed to be seen urgently by someone with more medical training than she had. That’s all she had to do - and yet she apparently couldn’t be bothered to do it. And because of that negligence, Omar Paisley died.

Wrong. He was responsible for being in a situation where adequate medical treatment SHOULD have been available to him. Note that the jail did in fact have nurses and medical personnel on staff/on call. If the system were not responsible for providing medical care then why were these people on staff?

Enjoy,
Steven

Fushj, let me try to explain this to you, using first principles we can all agree on:

1.) Human beings should not die in agonizing, unendurable pain.
2.) Human beings have an obligation to at least attempt to keep other human beings from dying in agonizing, unendurable pain.

The kid in this Miami jail cell was a human being. It follows, therefore, that the people around him had a moral obligation to keep him from dieing in unendurable pain. It wouldn’t have mattered if he were Osama Bin Laden himself - human beings are not supposed to die like that, when it can be prevented.

Let me just say this, since plenty of other people have already called you on your nonsense: Maybe you think being a callous son of a bitch is cool. Maybe you think it makes you seem smarter, more perceptive, more bad-ass. Whatever.

It doesn’t. A man who is so completely unable to empathize with his fellow man, a man who is genuinely comfortable with pain and suffering that I doubt words could fully convey - such a man is not more than the general run of humanity. He is far, far less. The society and rule of law that you claim to regard so highly was built, and is maintained, by men and women who recognize that all human beings have rights, and a special dignity that must not be infringed upon.

When you abandon this belief, when you say that it’s okay for certain human beings - scum, as you’d put it - to die weeping on a prison cell floor for want of a simple medical procedure, you do not put yourself in the company of the people who actually build our society and laws. You put yourself in the company of those who’ve tried to destroy them. I realize that this argument is used far too often, but you really do put yourself in the company of Nazis and other smug, self-righteous genocidal idiots.

A thing to remember: those genocidal fools, and others who think that the value of human life is conditional, not inherent - these fools always lose. Hitler died, with his precious “Reich” in flames. Milosevic is a beaten, pathetic specimen waiting to be hanged or drop dead of a heart attack, whichever comes first. The monsters who think human life is nothing special are always weaker than the rest of us, and sooner or later they end up on the ash-heap of history.

I hope you just like to flame, Fushj. I truly do. But if you are the man you seem to be, then it really doesn’t matter. If you are that man, then you’re on the wrong side of history - and that makes you very, very weak.

I believe I can add something to this debate.

You see, in my old line of work, I was in the position of the people in the story.

I was a Psychiatric Technician in a juvenile mental facility, private-run. My duties ran somewhere between those of nurse, therapist, counselor, prison guard, file clerk, and professional wrestler.

Without even thinking, I can immediately recall a dozen instances where teenage felons (as well as mentally unstable teens), upon being isolated in the Tank, due to their behavior, promptly developed agonizingly painful medical conditions. Hell, sometimes they GAVE themselves agonizingly painful conditions, by way of self-abuse, for one reason or another.

I can think of a great many occasions where I would gleefully have said, “Tough bananas, junior. I don’t believe you’re sick, and if you are sick, it would tickle me silly to watch you choke on your own vomit. I’m feeling a bit peevish; that punch you dealt me earlier loosened one of my teeth, and I’d bet my left nut this is all a big act to get me to unlock this door so you could try finishing the job.”

However, I never said anything like that. I am a professional, you see.

The idea is this: incarcerated individuals are assumed to be due certain basic human rights. Whether or not they DESERVE them is irrelevant. They are due those rights, period, and among those rights is competent medical care.

This kid did not get that medical care. It sounds very much like the nurse in question let her job burnout and/or general rotten attitude get the drop on her.

…and she deserves whatever happens to her, frankly.

This is a shame, as I’d like to hear where you draw the line. We’ve got a 17 year old KID, who happens to be detained and you seem to think that this justifies the nurses not having to do their job properly anymore.

If you’re going down that road, is there a crime that’s harmless enough to entitle a prisoner to proper medical care? What else, except for not having to do their job anymore, are the guards and nurses allowed to do to prisoners, as you seem to believe they have forfeited their rights by being prisoners? Mind you, the CHILD in question wasn’t an unlawful combatant or anything…

You should check that list and see what really does apply to you. “enemy of the United States Constitution” and a few others don’t seem far fetched, considering what you wrote here.
