Miami Juvenile Jail Official Told Dying Teen To 'Suck It Up'

Aagh! Stop it! To be “dignified” means to be worthy of respect.

It’s one thing to start with the assumption of dignity, but when someone demonstrates so abundantly that they lack that quality, it’s absurd not to acknowledge it.

Fushj00mang, I’m quoting you one of my favourite lines of all time from a movie, in the hopes that it reaches your understanding:

In A Few Good Men, Lance Corporal Dawson tells PFC Downey why what they did was wrong, even though they were following orders:

In a similar manner, the nurses and supervisors in the juvenile detention facility (not jail, not prison, a Juvenile Detention Facility) were supposed to “fight” for Omar, in that they were obligated by their sworn duty (sound familiar?) to provide aid where and when needed, no matter who needed it, because the people in their care couldn’t get that aid for themselves. They may not have beaten Paisley to death, but they certainly caused his death. They were responsible for his health and well being, and they failed him, and themselves, and society, when they did not live up to that responsibility.

** fushj00mang** There are laws in this country, that state that ordinary people, can be found criminally negligent if they do not seek medical help on behalf of a person in need of it, and the person dies. This law is applied even more harshly to medical professionals, because they have a more in-depth knowledge of “problem signs”. As a Quagop , a professional doctor already stated, “stomach” pain is not something to be just “blown off”, it’s ethically supposed to be investigated fully, it’s a “red flag”. Therefore the medical personell at the jail were…criminally negligent. End of story.

It’s more the very abstract “all human life is beautiful” kind of dignity then the whole “The quality and state of being worthy of esteem and respect” (American Heritage Dictionary) kind of dignity.

None of these dictionaries seem to acknowledge that sense of “dignity.”

I think fushj00mang is an artichoke. (In more the abstract, “Some people are abrasive shitheads that should be condemned and shunned” sense, rather than the “edible, thistle-like plant” (dictionary) kind of artichoke.) :stuck_out_tongue:

Dude, I was basically conceeding the point to you. But if you must push it–and, apparently, you must–I’d say that some of those dictionaries do acknowledge that sense of “dignity.” The second definition in The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language is:

Some of us think that human life has “inheritant nobility and worth,” and thus has dignity.

Now, can we please not get distracted by semantic games, and get back to articulating what a douchebag fushj00mang is?

Bottom line: The legislatures and the courts in the US have decided that inmates (and minor detainees) have a right to the same standard of health care that non-inmates get. And since the inmate cannot get this care himself the state must provide it. Period.

Therefore the state and its agents have a duty to provide it. The nurse cited in this case appears to have failed in her duty in to a possibly criminal degree.

And from his statements, it appears that fush feels he can decide for himself what his duty is. Odd, really.

Yeah, I admit it, I think fushj00mang’s views are stupid, but I’m not going to go calling him worthless as a human being simply because I didn’t agree with what he said on an Internet message board.

Some people need to just chill out.

I truly hope these nurses do some jail time for what they’ve done. There was no reason for that kid to die. Absolutely none.

And I’m not going to call fush00mang worthless or subhuman or any of that, so don’t worry. I will, however, cordially invite him to go fuck himself. Fuck you, fush00mang.

Touché.
(Sheathes hair-splitting blade.)

Well, I’m gonna need another beer. Cheers!

Agreed. As long as he’s alive, there’s a possibilty that he will change his ways.

“Hope is a good thing, perhaps the best of things”*

To return to the OP, I’d blame this on the nurses much more than the guards.

Back to the subject at hand: yes, fush, you’re way more irritating than Kurdt was. Prior to your moronic rantings, I’d never felt like I was less human just for reading something. But that’s the effect of being exposed to your posts. Nobody should have to read them without the protection of a biohazard suit. Asshole.

I believe that’s the first time ever that I’d honestly wished I had NOT read something. I cannot conceive anything, at the moment, more brutal than some medical practioner(s) intentionally abandoning their job. It goes beyond mere inhumanity and I hope those nurses are punished to the severest extent of the law, and that doesn’t feel nearly adequate enough.

Next, I was relieved to at least read the following quote and know that, since I definitely fall into the ‘category’ mentioned, I’m not joined by that particular poster. Thank God that fushj00mang isn’t liberated.

I’m sure that all of us that are, would be terribly ashamed. To say that attitude is disgusting and appalling is an understatement. And how anyone can come to that conclusion, when so many variables (like others have brought up) could be involved, is amazing. I suppose no one deserves dignity if they make mistakes.

Wonder what kind of world we’d all live in if we were branded as unworthy almost immediately? ::: hangs head in sorrow :::

True. But a privilege that Fush seems to be unwilling to allow to Omar.

Indeed, it is a privilege denied fush to extend to this teen because of the actions of those detailed in the link in the OP.

I’m going to post the same thing in both this thread, as well as in the thread that has become my second pitting. It is the last you’ll hear from me for a while, because while I hold the vast majority of this board’s users in high regard, I will not attempt a dialogue with individuals who’s moral standard include insulting, degrading, and then threatening an individual simply because their beliefs diverge (however narrowly or greatly) with another’s.

With that said…

I would like to apologize to anyone who I personally attacked for airing a differing opinion to mine. Rereading my replies within the thread, I note that I need to apologize nobody for attacking their personal ideals.

I would like to apologize to anyone I offended (which seems, at last count, to be roughly a third of the active board) with my choice of language. My opinion stands unswayed, but upon reflection, I do believe that I might have been better served if I’d used some tact in my choice of language.

And finally, I would like to thank all of my detractors (whom over the course of these two thread have called me (in order) asshole, cavedweller, hateful, sadistic, pathetic, attention-seeking, a shit, callous, dumb, disingenuous, a sanctimonious piece of mule shit, a stupid piece of shit, a raging asshole, trollish, a drooling moron, a liar, an enemy of the United States Constitution, a mercenary, a dishonor to the uniform, a drug user (paraphrased from Honey’s ‘bong’ comment), a disgusting bag of flesh, a first-class asshole, lacking in all common decency, piece of shit such as you, implied that I will either become or cause mentally disabled/homeless/addicts/average veterans, a dumb ass, a lousy waste of flesh, a twisted piece of horse manure, a mass murderer (by implication. BTW, I ain’t on the level of Lieutenant Calley. I respect non-combatants, until they start shooting,) a fucking idiot, a primordial swamp-crawling pustule-infested brain-deficient bag of mother-fucking cuntswill, flat, dull, thoughtless, dim-witted, half-baked, a total asshole, lilliputian, stupid, our resident moron, an asshole (again), mindless (or braindead, depending on interpretation of a sentence,) a disgrace, an artichoke (?), a douchebag, and moronic, then threatened my career in another thread). You remind me why I’m here, and why I think the way that I do.

Oh, and to whomever it was that said he or she felt bad about the first Iraqi kid I ran across, well, I’m teaching him English. He’s teaching me how to play soccer. I think it’s a fair trade.

Yours,

and wait for an Apache gunship or Abrams to come out and take on the hostiles. Perhaps next time I’m in a hole, I’ll get behind our M240 and actually be able to kill something, but I do hope it’ll be a quiet day. As far as shooting off my mouth, I’ve stood in every argument I’ve been in. I have yet to see you do anything but take this one potshot. Do you have any SUBSTANCE to add?

As far as being a drooling moron? Far from it. Actually, I am being shipped home and I am being released from active duty to inactive reserve status. I learned last week (same time as my ‘82’ post) that I’ve been approved to enter the USAF’s Bootstrap program (if you don’t know the term, it means I’m going to be sent to a university or college of my choice, continue to recieve my current pay and upon graduation will be comissioned an officer in the United States Air Force.) Furthermore, my lieutenant says he’s put me in for the Joint Forces Commendation Medal.
And with that said, I’m going to go check my field equipment. I’ll be back tomorrow, same time, same place. Ta!

[QUOTE]

Sorry, I have to disagree with that “far from it” . I have to agree with what 99,9% of the posters on this thread said to you.

As for your mentioning that next time you maybe are going to hit “something”.
Be aware of it that this “something” might hit you first, and with every right of a citizen who wants his country cleaned from immoral bloodthirsty invaders like you present yourself to be.

You also claim you “believe in God”.
Permit me to say that I take claim of yours as as a joke.

Maybe you are that soldier who was pictured with “KILL KILL KILL” painted on a ruban around his helmet and a Bible under his hand.
Or maybe you are the Brave US Soldier who, when asked “Why on earth did you kill that women” replied: I don’t know. Hey, that chick got in my way".
Or one of those who found pleasure in torturing prisoners?
Or maybe you are the one who provided the prize winning Press Photo journalist with his subject = maybe you were the one who put an Iraqy behind a fence with a plastic bag over his head in the naked sun, while his little son tried to get comfort by leaning close to his father?

All of this wouldn’t surprize me a bit.

Do go home to the USA as soon as possible.
Where you are now, you only can add to the disgrace the USA already has to face worldwide because of their invasion and occupation of Iraq.

I can come into it that none of the members here to see their tax money used to pay your salary, let be to pay for your enrollment in a university.
I have some idea that whenever you get to become exposed to academic education, you are going to leave a lot of sweat. You show in every post you made on this thread that you do not possess have the right attitude to provide you with the open mind that is indispensable to make such an education a succes.
I do wish you that: A lot of sweat and headaches in trying to get your brain and your facts right, with as result an educated adult who, when reading back his posts here, wants to be sink in the ground out of pure shame and regret.

Salaam. A
