Anyone watching this? It’s the new Jerry Bruckheimer produced medical drama starring Jeremy Northam. As I’ve been fan of Mr Northam’s forever, I 'll probably stick with it for a while but I wasn’t hugely impressed with the first episode. The dialogue was pretty awful - the young female doctor saying “if you don’t I WILL” to the bloke who asks to kiss his pregnant wife before she undergoes surgery was especially terrible.
It’s pretty grisly too. I hate shows where you have people just blithely pottering along and something horrific happens to them out of nowhere. That bit doesn’t make it objectively bad or anything but it does mean it might not be for me if that kind of thing happens every week.
On the upside, although the characters seem rather cliched, I thought most of the actors, not just Northam were pretty likeable and gave a bit of depth to their cardboard cutouts.
Did you watch? What did you think?
I dvr’d it based on Northam. I haven’t watched it yet, though… To tell you the truth, I’m not all that up for another medical show. I wouldn’t have bothered with it at all if it wasn’t for the cute-dude factor.
I’m watching it because the writer/producer, Jeffrey Leiber is a regular diarist on DailyKos and I like his style.
Isn’t it time for a dentist based show?
I found it thoroughly unremarkable. It’s not so bad that I would avoid it if I was looking for something to watch when it was on, but not so good that it’s going to be on my DVR. Maybe the lack of expectations that comes with being in the Friday night death slot will give it time to grow.
I somehow suspect this show itself is not long for this world. Shame because I thought this week’s episode was a lot stronger. I said last week that I felt the characters were a bit cardboard cutout like and clichéd but I think this week I got a better sense of them as individuals and some interesting dynamics are starting to emerge.
I’m kind of amused by all the bright orange lighting. Are they using the same crew or stock footage from CSI Miami or what?
