Michael Keaton, star of 1989’s Batman and its sequel Batman Returns, is set to reprise his role as the Caped Crusader in the upcoming Flash movie starring Ezra Miller. He is confirmed to be playing Bruce Wayne/Batman and not Bruce’s father, Thomas. It is not clear how this will be accomplished since Ben Affleck previously appeared as Batman alongside Miller in two previous movies. He may play an alternate version of Batman due to the Flash opening a gateway to the mulltiverse as a result of creating Flashpoint. Keaton is supposedly in talks to appear in future DC movies as Batman.
So we’re getting the “I was just TWO days away from retirement” Batman?
He’s a bit long in the tooth. But I like Keaton, so I’ll watch.
Maybe if they change the story enough they won’t have to credit Geoff Johns.
I remember, back in the day, all the fanboys wailing “Oh, no, Tim Burton’s going to ruin action movies by casting Mr. Mom as Batman!”
And Burton said something to the effect of “No, I’m casting Michael Keaton as a Bruce Wayne who’s psychotic enough to become Batman.”
Bumping this. Ben Affleck has also agreed to return as the Dark Knight in the upcoming Flash movie, according to Vanity Fair. The Ezra/Flash, as I’m call him, is in the same universe as Bat-Fleck, since they appeared together in Batman V. Superman and Justice League. It doesn’t look like Affleck isn’t done with Batman after all.
It looks like the Flash movie is going into the multiverse, with multiple Batmans (Batmen?). I eagerly anticipate Grant Gustin’s cameo in said movie.
Why not? They previously met in Crisis on Infinite Earths, so it’s apparent DC is intent on using the multiverse to offer more than one take on their superheroes. The Batman film with Robert Pattinson is still a go.
