You’re still looking at TM™ as some poor innocent kid who was treated unfairly. But you’re completely ignoring that he’s in this situation as result of being confronted while prowling around homes where he had no business being. You have been played like a deck of cards by gz. Why did you just take at face value whatever gz said, without considering the other side of the coin? For many it is because even for people who dont realize theyre racist, they have still been conditioned to perceive as a black man as suspicious first and guilty second, in quick order. Discussing the issue here has made me realize how deeply entrenched racism is, and I have only become even more convinced than I was before, how far we as a nation have to go on the issue. Sadly, many white people are if not actually racist, then to a large degree at a disconnect with the reality of how society and the justice system treats black people.
Your comment that people “enjoy playing the race card” shows to me the disconnect you seem to possibly have with the reality. Its not that we “enjoy” playing a race card, the card is already there, so to speak, we dont want it there , we want a level deck of playing cards for ALL people, not just whites.

By “close enough” do you mean that he got a pass because the general criminal law requires proof of every specific element of a crime beyond a reasonable doubt, and that the laws of the state of Florida placed on the prosecution the additional burden of DISproving self-defense beyond a reasonable doubt, and that the lack of eyewitness evidence and forensic evidence meant that these burdens could not be met?

According to the evidence at the trial Travon Martin did walk home and was left the fuck alone. He then went out of his way to walk back to Zimmerman and assault him. He died exactly as his girlfriend predicted.
Oh my god, you are soooooooo right. I didn’t even think about the fact that a Mexican guy caught prowling around in the same manner would have simply been given the white people nod and a refreshing spot of tea. You have enlightened and enriched me.
Fyi, zimmerboy is not Mexican. His father is german, and his mother is peruvian. Fyi, he posted anti Mexican hateful rants on his past social media page
His mother didnt want her precious sons to date or marry non white women. A family member told the spd how him and his family used to spew how they didnt like blacks ( unless they acted white), and she gave the pd this info long before it was in the media. Immediately after the shooting she called the pd to let them know gz had a long history of hateful beliefs towards blacks and that he was also a very confrontational person.
Zimmerman provably did not have a history of hatred towards blacks, in fact the opposite. He protested racist acts by the police department, and mentored black children, among other things.

I do sometimes forget that, whilst there’s some nonsense on this board (as well as stuff I strongly disagree with that, nevertheless, is not nonsense), there’s far more, and far worse, out there.

The guy could not say where he heard it, and of course I could google nothing. He also said that some magic lamp had been built in South America that could cure cancer. The boy listens too much to late night radio, or surfs the web way more than he should. 
Completely untrue. To the contrary, Zimmerman is the only living dual recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, in 1999 and again in 2006. He worked directly with Ben Jealous on the NCAAP Defense Fund. And the gun that was used in defending himself was not something he bought – he won it as first prize in a truth-telling contest two towns over.

This is nonsense-he wouldn’t have gone to trial if he hadn’t been white…or close enough. The police/prosecutors had already investigated the situation, found it within the bounds of the SYG laws, or self-defense, and were not going to prosecute until pressured by the black/whiteshooter-blackvictim-inFlorida lobby.
This reminded me of some of the reader comments at CNN, where people are spouting all kinds of nonsense about both Martin and Zimmerman. Here’s a sample:

You think that because he tutored a black kid or had some token black friend who acts white that means hes not racist?
