Michelle Obama was my hero today

Plus head uncovered? Good on her. Women are treated like dirt there and there’s no reason for a proud Western woman to cater to their bigotry.

  1. If she was so pissed off about the whole thing she could’ve stayed home. She’s the president’s wife, only that, she’s not a (important) part of the US government.

  2. It’s OK to dislike and despise even, the mistreatment of women in Saudi Arabia. It, however, is a bit hollow if you aid and abbet it with your own country’s policies. If Saudi Arabia is such a big ally, it means that women’s rights in SA are less-than-relevant. The US governement doesn’t give a shit about women in SA.

  3. Bully pulpits are perfect, but they can only take you so far. It’s easy to take a “courageous stand” when you husband is POTUS.

  4. Also, the couragoeus stand means that if the Saudi King want to bring his 4 wives and make them grovel in front of them when he goes to the White House, they’s all have to swallow and let it go.

Still, nothing like annoying the little Saudi bastards, even a little bit.
Well done.

Fuck the Saudis. They finance terrorism, promote religious extremism, treat women like children and sell a product that destroys the world. The best thing we could all do is finance renewable resources so we can go back to ignoring them.

I love the line, “The First Lady, 51, was snapped alongside her husband Barack Obama …”.

How would you be doing without their “product that destroys the world?”

I’m not getting it, but maybe I’m just ignorant of what past president’s wives did. Did they wear head coverings when visiting Saudi Arabia? I hope not!

I’d be careful before believing reporters’ assessment of whether someone was “pissed off” or not. They are trying to sell the story, you know, and that grabs a lot more eyeballs than “Michelle Obama enjoys trip to Middle East”.

Religious institutions have no place marginalizing women in the modern world, I agree wholeheartedly.

Though, not a particularly brave stand when it is a different religion from your own doing the marginalizing. Or does the ‘Merica, fuck yeah!’ part trump it all?

Laura Bush didn’t. Neither did Condoleeza Rice or Hilary Clinton as Secretaries of State.

Hillary did however, wear the hijab in Pakistan.

The link to the photo in that cite is out of date. Is there an actual photo of this somewhere?

Looks like M.O. got some fashion advice from Maude!

I agree with adaher.

The Saudis can cram their treating of women like cattle up their sandy buttholes.

We’d all better off using renewable resources that don’t pollute and don’t increase global warming. One of the worst legacies we’ve left our children is an oil based economy controlled by religious crazies. I didn’t think that was a particularly controversial statement so I don’t understand why the rolleyes.

I’m a Jewish woman. The Saudis use oil money to help spread anti-Semitism and sexism. Fifteen of their shitty countrymen scared the crap out of my husband for weeks when he saw the second plane hit the Twin Towers. Screw them. They represent one of the world’s worst societies. Kudos to Mrs. Obama for not turning herself into a non-person just to adhere to their lousy morays.

Fully agreed!!!

That country proudly remains 3,000 years behind society. Women are basically thought of as worthless in that pointless theocracy.

Ah, I see. We’ll all just magically start using magical renewable resources that don’t pollute and magically don’t contribute to global warming. I see.

Nu. So, where’s your sheitel?

(j/k!)

If morays got lice, wouldn’t they (the lice) be likely to just drown?

Just because heroin addicts can’t break the habit doesn’t mean you can’t be pissed at dealers who make a fortune selling it to them.

I’m not sure how self-destructive drug dependency and reliance upon commodities for economic progression and development are similar. But I’m kinda drunk at the moment…

We could certainly make more of an effort. Rather than pandering to fucking assholes who make grown women get guardians. It’s like having the Phelps clan control our energy supply.

The older I get the more I think Yoko Ono was right about women being the n world of the world.

Underneath my horns obviously.
