:dubious:
As a Nebraska alum/fan, I have a thing or two to say about this!
Our offense will try to score points, and our defense will try to stop you from doing the same. If successful, NU wins!
(Bet you’re scared now)
Looks like that is not going to happen.
And I really wish I had bet the house on Boise State, too bad I didn’t stay up to watch the second half of the game. Even though I’m a Gator alum, it’s a shame Boise State wasn’t involved in the National Championship somehow. Great team and great determination.
Yeah, crap. Michigan played their crappiest game of the year. A big blow to the Big Ten prestige but we can pick it back up with a Buckeye blowout. The only bright spot is that it wasn’t against the SEC. Actually, the bright spot for the weekend was Michigan State winning the Great Lakes Invitational in hockey.
Great win for Boise State but they still need to beef up their non-conference schedule. Not a single opponent throughout the year was ranked until the Fiesta Bowl. Sacramento State, Oregon State, Wyoming, and Utah are not games that are going to impress the pollsters. Next years non-conference opponents, Weber State, Washington, Wyoming, and Bowling Green don’t exactly strike terror in the hearts of fans, either.
I was surprised that the Big 10 went 2-0 against the SEC (the self-proclaimed best conference)–Wisc over Arkansas, Penn State over Tennessee. (I was Reno, and had money on all 3 SEC teams that played on New Year’s…this is why I don’t bet on sports). So the Big 10 came out looking pretty good on the day.
Hey…how about those Cal Bears, huh?
Yeah, too bad Michigan was forced to take the field.
The trouble I have with looking at conference bowl records is that often you have the #1 team from conference A playing the #4 team from conference B. If A beats B, does that conference A is the better of the two? Not in my book.
Usually if it’s #1 vs #4, it’s BCS #4 vs “mid-major” #1 – eg, the Las Vegas Bowl, where MWC champ BYU thumped Pac-10 #4 Oregon. So the matchup is reasonably comparable.
This does open a whole 'nother can of worms…but I’d say bowl records are the only conference comparison we have. So what else can we talk about until next year?
And it looks like the Big East (4-0) gets to give the rest of the BCS a big Neener Neener.
So the Big 12, the ACC and the PAC-10 are better than the Big 11 Ten? But, but, the SEC is better than the ACC, the Notre Dame Conference of One and just as good as the Big 12.
The state of Florida is undefeated in the Bowl Season thus far:
South Florida 24 - East Carolina 7
FSU 44 - UCLA 27
U of Miami 21 - Nevada 20
I’m not sure how all of the other Ohio teams have done in their bowl games, or where they rank in the top 25. I know that the Buckeyes are good, though.
Here’s an interesting comparison of Ohio and Florida from the Orlando Sentinel (also ran in the Cleveland Plains Dealer)
Oddly enough, there’s three Ohio teams in bowls, and none of them have played yet. Besides Ohio State in the championship on Monday, Cincinnati (7-5, Big East) is playing on Saturday v. Western Michigan and Ohio (9-4, MAC) is playing on Sunday v. Southern Miss.
I yearn for the days when all the bowls were over by New Year’s Day. But on Bobcats, on Bearcats!
I yearn for the days when almost all the bowls WERE on New Year’s Day, and teams actually needed to win their conferences to get in them too. Now it doesn’t even take a winning record.
what’s funny is the Florida writer mainly makes fun of Ohio State University, the school, whereas the Cleveland writer mainly makes fun of the state of Florida, only throwing jabs about Zook and the ill-advised pre-season guide cover. If your best insult of the school is that they hired a bad coach for three years, you better look in the mirror. Didn’t Ohio State go like a decade and only beat Michigan three times?
Maybe it’s just too easy to make fun of Florida. I mean, they do have a “Florida” tag on fark.
and Ohio’s not?
They don’t have an Ohio (or any other state) tag on fark.
Most of the truly screwed up individuals in Florida are from Ohio, Michigan, New Jersey and New York but came down here to “start a new life”. They’re still screwed up, just in better weather.
They’re still ahead, then.
True. We can’t get the loonies to move back up north.
