Microsoft Outlook Q.

When I’ve gotten email in the past, I used to get a popup in the lower right hand of my screen, and also the Inbox would refresh automatically. Now it doesn’t happen. How do I reset this option?

What version of Outlook?

Off the top of my head, I’m guessing your installation of Outlook is just ever so slightly out of synch to the server. I’ve cleared many a weird glitch in Outlook by toggling the “Cached
Exchange” mode on and off. It’s in the advanced properties for your account.

Dig around to find it (It moves from version to version of Outlook) change it and Apply/OK your way back out. Go right back and put it back to how it was when you found it and cross your fingers that it works.

If it’s just the lower-right corner popup that stopped working, that’s somewhere in the Options.

The tough part is that Microsoft juggles all of these settings from one version of Outlook to another, so I can’t offer much better than “Go look for it…” without knowing which version you have.

Worst-case scenario is that your profile got borked and you’ll need to head over to the Email Accounts window to drop the existing profile and build a new one. If you have just one inbox and few, if any rules, it’s not a hard process, but it can be a pain if you have several inboxes with “send as” access and a pile of rules.

Thanks for the help. I’m not sure what version of Outlook I have, as I use it at work, but am now at home. Unfortunately, I cannot access the dope from work, but if you nice people will bear with me, I will make a note of it tomorrow and let you know.

And now that I’m face to face with Outlook, the pop-up display control will most likely be found thusly…

From the main program window, click on **Tools ** on the menu, then select Options. The **Preferences ** tab is probably already selected. If not, click on it. Find and click the **E-mail Options… ** button. (probably in the top-right corner) then click the **Advanced e-mail options… ** button. (I told you they like to hide it!!)

The middle section is what you want - When new items arrive in my Inbox Ensure that **Display a New Mail Desktop Alert… ** is checked. With the Alert Settings… box, you can also control how transparent the popup is, and how long it will be visible.
