Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game: Fifth Adventure - War in Goblin Gate

“I have neither bow nor treasure-hunting skills, but if a stout shield and strong arm is useful, I am ready as ever. Lead on!”

seeing Thoroncir on the road to recovery but drifting on the edge of consciousness, and watching Gilraen attend him

Wearied no whit by his foes unclean,
Daunted by none he had fought,
Bravely he charged the siege machine
Setting his safety at naught;
Brutal the missile and cruel the wound,
Dreadful and shocking the pain:
Swore yet in fair damsel’s arms as he swooned
Gladly he’d dare it again.

I think we will should leave our valiant wounded here to sleep, although your song should help them rest easier, Gil-Gandel.

Hopefully they will be better when we return.

Asleep but exceedingly well-guarded, I trust. :dubious:

Another great poem, Malacandra - thanks!

Ghân will follow Gilraen out and use his Goodberries and Herbal Cures as desired.
(He’s pretty much out of spells.)

Good hunting, those who stay.
Great poetry, Gil-Gandel.

Since Gwaelur and Hraesdig have offered to stay with the Dwarves in the caves, Bitur will accompany and help guard those of the party who are returning top-side for rest.

Ok, so it looks like Gilraen, Thoroncir, Deor, Elfstan, Ghan and Bitur are recovering above. Gil-Gandel, Mulligan, Gwaelur, Hraedsig are assisting the dwarves.

I wonder what we will find next.

Ten Dwarves escort Gilraen, Thoroncir, Deor, Elfstan, Ghân, Bitur, Miron and a few injured Dwarves and one Hobbit outside. They make it with no problems.

Gil-Gandel, Mulligan, Gwaelur, Hraedsig and Brin stay with the Dwarves and help support the Dwarves exploring the passages below the large hall they are holding and fortifying. It is slow going with Rüdan being extra cautious. Sandy Proudfoot is working with this group that includes 12 of the best Dwarves and 2 quiet Elven Archers.

Another 6 hours pass and after one more troll is found and fought, Hraedsig suffered 17 points of damage and several Dwarves were injured along the way. Most of the times they had Hraedsig in the back so that Gwaelur could anchor 2-3 other Dwarves in the front and give a row of archers clear shots over their heads. The Elven Archers both proved to be better shots than Gil-Gandel and rarely missed. They would send 6 arrows flying in the time that Gil-Gandel sent 3 and Brin 2. Between Mulligan, Gil-Gandel, Rüdan and a few other Dwarves they bypassed or disarmed every trap they found. Rüdan was more than willing to take 15 minutes on each when needed and refused to allow scouting at all. He kept the group in close formation. Stealth was also out. In all the group got the troll and 35 more goblins and 17 very large rats. Each were ferocious and 3’ long.

Outside Gilraen does Thoroncir to keep him sleeping until the morning. She worked for 4 more hours and Ghân for 2 and then he slept to get his spells back and resumed working at 3am. Miron worked through the night and kept careful watch on Elfstan. Deor helped for a bit and then slept soundly from 8pm to 6am. Bitur assisted in guarding the camp and helped to fortify it a bit more. He also processed in 37 men that showed upon foot to assist led by a Hobbit on a Pony. The Hobbit is older and named Merimac Brandybuck the grandson of Meriadoc’s Uncle Merimac.

 I’ve got insomnia, too!!!

Best. Typo. EVAH!

As Eru is my witness, I swear I typed “doses”.

Thoroncir awakes in the morning and says, stretching with a big smile, “I had the most wonderful dream!”

The Brandybuck’s just here to *monitor *the situation, I take it?

Well, if Thoroncir is awake, he can guard the area while the rest of us sleep.

He seems to be daydreaming a lot though. :stuck_out_tongue:

Here is the breakdown of where the armies and important leaders and heroes are.
Base Camp: Bofur, Elrohir, Bella the Beorning Healer & Brevarn Bearson

  1. Front Porch Dwarves led by Thorin III Stonehelm. Taurernal’s party.
  2. Wolf Gate: Being guarded from the outside.
  3. Far Mine: Dwarves, Elladan, Glorfindel & PontoTook. Eagles watching closely.
  4. New Back Door: Commanded by Kwon an older Dwarf. Dwarves + Gil-Gandel’s Party + Falcon Master’s party.
  5. Grave Door: Being guarded from the outside
  6. Secret Exit: Being guarded from the outside with a Giant.
  7. Deep Valley: Dwarves
Rapid reinforcements: 2 groups of 32 Elves led by Elenwë and Captain Celepen.

The remaining 32 are either at the Base Camp or on guard duty at 2,5 & 6
Klun son of Kron the Camp commander has the following updates:
My brother Kwon has had much success and broke the last big pocket of goblins.

Falcon Master, Faramir Took, Farofind of Imladris and the 6 Northern Rangers successful wiped out the nest of cave trolls. They also found 5 small pockets of goblins.

At the Front Porch but headed towards Gollum’s Lake, Taurernal’s party found a strange finely crafted room with magic doors. The big door has a Cold glyph on it. They waited for some high powered help; Glorfindel, Elladan, Elrohir, Bella the Beorning Healer/Herbologist and a Dwarven demolition team. What they found on the other side of the door was Brevarn Bearson, who has been hibernating as a 13’ tall bear for many hundreds of years in an enchanted sleep, in fact since the year 2000. They also found and destroyed a Greater Wraith nearby thanks to Ponto Took and his Blade of the West. Thorin Stonehelm is said to be deep in the bowels of Goblin Town now.

Far Mine: The fighting is slow but sure. The Dwarves are being very systematic and Elladan and Glorfindel have returned to help them with Panto Took and several others.

Deep Valley is being reported as clear and most of the Dwarves are now helping at Front Porch and making a push into Wolf Gate from the inside. Some 50 are on their way here. Merimac Brandybuck has just led in 37 men that will aid outside. He is available for inside or outside work.

The goblins that are left are fleeing deep. Klun has two options for you: Plan to go deep in a Goblin hunt or stay in the camp as a rapid reinforcement group and help with the healing of course.

We are very close to the mop up period. I suspect today will be the last big day of battle. We will spend the next few months though clearing these caverns and taking over the mines. Some good news was brought by Merimac Brandybuck in fact. Of the 37 men he led here all 37 plan to build a small community here at the camp to work with the Dwarven miners that will be taking over the coal and copper mine here. Rivendell also promises to support us here. This pass will be safe in the future and made even safer as we widen and smooth the pass. The Anduin Valley will soon be connected to the North Kingdom by a good road that bypasses Rivendell but is protected by it.

Malacandra, that was painful. Poor EH, he is ore of a history buff than I.

Unsurprisingly to all, Hraedsig prefers the Deep Goblin Hunt [tm] to waiting here.

As does Gwaelur.

As does Mulligan.

Well, I had an ironclad excuse…

I am sure we are all of good heart for another day of battle. Another vote for the Deep Goblin Hunt.

Ugh! The puns. They burns us, precious!

Bitur would prefer the goblin hunt as well.
