Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game: Fifth Adventure - War in Goblin Gate

Thank you. Though we dwarves have a lot of competition on the courage front from your people. Especially when considering that courage in battle is instilled upon us from birth as a cultural thing. It’s pretty much unavoidable. Whereas courage in your kind seems to come as a more ingrained trait, a part of who you are inherently.

So it sounds like most of the party is heading in.

Falcon Master will now split his group up to work with various Dwarven groups within. As Rory was suppose to report to him, he quickly assigns Rory to your group. Falcon Master will now be working outside as a rapid responder. To Brin, “Brin I’m going to ask you to work outside and put your bow to better use.”

Brin seems happy, “Sure, if you think that is for the best.”

Faramir Took (the Thain) wanders over to greet his cousin and much more distant cousins. “Hail Rory, good to see you again. How’s Elfstan doing Mulligan? Will he pull through? What exactly happened?”

Klun will assign your group 20 additional Dwarves again headed by Rüdan. Jari, Víli, Nolí & Karfi are all along.

A reminder: Nolí and Karfi are both hammer and war shield usersand scarred vets of more than one Goblin war. They both wear tough Dwarven Plate armor and full helms.

Time to think about marching orders for single file and double file work.

A tall and strikingly good-looking Elf comes to view the new arrival. He is strumming almost absent-mindly on a gleaming twelve-string harp and versifying to himself in Elvish, apparently working on a song. Unarmoured, he wears one or two obvious accoutrements in the shape of a belt and a piece of jewellery over his simple but stylish clothing, and carries an asymmetric pair of swords and a splendid yew bow slung over his shoulder.

Welcome, friend Rorimac! And a son of the Magnificent, no less - I was fortunate enough to meet your father in Minas Tirith and considered it a great privilege. I am Gil-Gandel, that is “Star-harp” in the Westron, and as close as such a diverse group has to a leader; though I heard you talk of cats a moment ago, and you may have heard a proverb about herding such creatures.

We have been graced with the services of a Took and a Fairbairn already, and a Brandybuck will be welcome indeed; we have much work yet to do, I am sure, and we will soon find out how to make best use of your talents.

An armored warrior leaves tending his horse to join the newcomer: “Welcome, friend hobbit. We could always use another stout heart in the fight against evil. I am Hraedsig of Rohan. I just joined this party a few days ago, and this is my first time fighting underground - so you and I have something in common already. You could not be joining a group more well-equipped for any danger than this. I have gained much respect for your brethren in just the short time we have been battling here, so I am pleased to see another of their kin.”

Rorimac bows again. “In such company I feel quite small, but what talents I have learned are at your disposal.”

To Gwaelur: “I am pleased to meet you, and I doubt that the company of dwarves could prove less than pleasant, no matter the number.”

To Bitur: “An interesting thought. You are taught to be so, and we never think of it except for rare times and folk. Yet here we are.”

To Hraedsig: “I am glad to hear that we have another strong arm against goblins and such. Also that I am not alone in my lack of underground conflict. I am sure I will have much to learn from everyone.”

Thoroncir smiles to see his comrades’ welcome of the Brandybuck fellow.

He says privately to Princess Gilraen, “My lady, I thank you once more for your healing skills. I feel much better now. If you believe I am sufficiently recovered, I will accompany the others back within the caves. But if you think it would be best that I remain out here to further recover, reluctantly, I shall do so.”

Cousin, good to see you again. Elfstan was hit on the back of the head by some goblins while scouting at my suggestion. Gilraen seems to think he will pull through although the wound was serious.

As the party begins to reorganize itself, Rory strolls over to the Falcon Master to compare Ranger notes since they last met.

If the party is ready, they can head back deep underground. I just need some marching orders. Keep in mind Rüdan will be towards the front or in the front.

The group will be 28 in total: Gil-Gandel, Glee, Thoroncir, Gwaelur, Bitur, Mulligan, Hraedsig, Rorimac Brandybuck and 20 additional Dwarves again headed by Rüdan. Jari, Víli, Nolí & Karfi are all along.

How about this:

Rüdan
Gwaelur and Bitur
Thoroncir and Hraedsig
Mulligan and Rorimac (can slip ahead for scouting, as needed)
Gil-Gandel

Then the 20 additional Dwarves again headed by Rüdan, with Jari, Víli, Nolí & Karfi bringing up the rear.

When we come to very narrow places, the second-named person drops behind the first-named.

Will Gilraen be remaining on the surface?

Couple of things,

Mulligan should be ahead of the party for scouting, Rüdan permitting and will Sandy Proudfoot be coming along as well?

Who is this Man? Does anyone know him? He looks as though he should be teaching striplings to play at throw-board, not in a war-party! And where is our Druid?

Gilraen will remain the camp today as she mentioned earlier. Sandy Proudfoot is still with the group he has been working with.

Rüdan says, “I am perfectly happy to let either Hobbit scout ahead, though not too far ahead. I would desire strongly some protection in the read of this group in the form of missiles or extra strong arms to support the Dwarves.” He then turns to Ghân, “Sorry for messing up your name Ghân.”

A man is walking through the Camp, “I am asked to send all volunteers to be invisible over to the main tent. A Mage will be turning a large group invisible today. This offer is mainly for small quiet folk, especially Hobbits and Elves.”

Any that go will be arranged on a wooden framework that is used to maximize the effects of an Invisibility 10’ spell. Deor might be interested in meeting the Mage of course.

Can I ask that we move Jari, Víli, Nolí & Karfi up to the front ranks to help bulk up our forward attack?

Invisibility good, I’m up for that.

:: looks around ::

Who said that?

NAF1138, I don’t know that we need another four Dwarves up front, but I’ll let our Elf-captain decide.

Sorry to have omitted Ghan and Deor.

Ahem. You seem to have been talking to me, but, while we are friends I don’t know how I feel about you giving me cute nicknames like NAF1138. :dubious: I don’t know what that means to you, but I would rather you stick with Gwaelur. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, I feel like if we had a stronger attack party yesterday we might have had fewer injuries and maybe Elfstan wouldn’t have gotten himself into such trouble.

“I’ll also accept the offer of invisibility. This adventure looks to be full of interesting experiences.”

“Absolutely! This looks to be truly fascinating! I simply must meet this mage and ask him where he studied.”

Yes, people who can’t be bothered to get a simple name right can be quite a trial of the spirit, wouldn’t you agree, Gwaelur?

By all means let us do as suggested - the Dwarves are eager for action and I am sure they will serve us well. Slot Ghân in just behind them in case anyone needs healing. Thoroncir, Hraedsig, be ready to drop to one knee if I need to loose off.
