Fortunately my Goodberries can each act as a full meal, so about mid-morning I can lob one at Mulligan…
Would that be for second breakfast, or tensies?
Which will do as a mid-morning snack of course, should just about tide me over until elevenses.
That’s all fine, and I’ve replied to your PM.
Ghân loads:
1st: Animal Friendship*, Detect Magic, Detect Poison, Entangle, Faerie Fire, Speak Animal
2nd: Barkskin**, CLW, Flame Blade, Goodberry***, Heat Metal
3rd: Neutralise Poison, Summon Insects
*one lives in hope…if at any calm time I see a decent sized bird compatible with Folca, I will Speak Animals to it and if all seems well, Animal Friend it.
**cast this when we are within a few hours of the orc camp
***I have 18 precast at present
I don’t know how to break this to you, but a single Goodberry is like a piece of Lembas Bread - and you know what your distinguished relation did with that!
Is Barkskin self-only? If not, it might also help a certain lightly armored pathfinder if he should end up in close combat.
I’m just sayin’…
Ghân: You are welcome to ask me anything, because I want the Fighters and Pathfinders to be happy.
Barkskin gives an improvement of 1 to anyone’s AC and saving throw (What Exit? will confirm whether wearing normal armour defeats the effect). However:
- on anyone else, it only lasts 7 rounds
- if I cast it, I have one less Cure Light Wounds that day
Such behaviour in front of a respected elder of his people! First drunkenness and now brawling.
glee, the duration on barkskin is far less than you think, unless the DM has heavily tweaked it (edit - apparently he has). Not much of an AC benefit, but it does count as plate for the purposes of penetration - could be very good depending on what the foe are armed with.
I should think the hobbits would rather like mushrooms for their breakfast.
Out of curiousity, why a bird similar to Folca?

Yes, the benefit of Barkskin is different for me, as the DM has given me a magic item designed for Druids. Mine lasts hours; everyone else’s lasts rounds.
I am certain this will not unbalance the game - it’s just good protection for one caster.
[Wose humour ON] Assuming there is ‘much room’ left in their stomachs! [Wose humour OFF]
Ghân: Aha. I said ‘compatible’, because if I do get a bird friend, I want it to be able to work well with Deor’s familiar.
E.g. If I get a plump pigeon, presumably the hawk will go into ‘hafling mode’ and see it as ‘second breakfast’.
Thoroncir greets Prince Caramir and the other knights of Gondor with all due courtesy and respect, and will get the best rest he can overnight after seeing to his horse Seafoam’s care and feeding.
“I see,” said the blind man, as he took a cup and saw, sir.
Heh. The Wild Man is quite a ‘fun guy’.

I really hope your poetry is better than your puns

Ghân: Can Gimli and Prince Caramir take a look at the Orc weapons we captured? Any information?
Once that’s done, I believe we’ve agreed to sell the weapons and split the cash equally.
Sorry if I haven’t made it clear to the party, but Moose is not my mount.
He’s intelligent, hates orcs and we just travel together. He can go his own way when he feels like it.
What Exit?, I have a few spare herbs - would they sell in Minas Tirith? (And for how much?)
Is there a potential Animal Friend about?
Ghân would like a fast moving, tough bird with good eyesight*…
(I would load Locate Animals, but its range is very limited.)
We are hoping that Folca can see the orc camp safely from the air.
If not, did the captured orcs give us enough information to find it?
Since the Knight of Gondor offered to look after our mounts, is the trail into the mountains too steep for riding? Or do we have a choice?
How many allies are accompanying us? (e.g. Merry, Ornan, Gimli, Prince Caramir and Knight(s) of Gondor)
*Ghân starts optimistically
As i’m enjoying this, I’ve started a game of my own here.
Do have a look!
Ghân: For animal friendship see control thread post 308
Ghân, you do note a nearby and slightly curious Owl of good size.
Prince Caramir, “I thank you for your welcome and I thank you for your assistance to the lands of Gondor and Rohan. This affects both nations.”
Gimli looking over the weapons, “These weapons are a mix of makes, some old and some new. A few are from the Dark Land itself, many from the smithies of Isengard and at least one from Moria herself. Not dwarf made but I know the works of the Goblins that live there. A few are of human make, one has some Gondorian Marks, Dol Amroth I believe.”
You did not get enough information to find the Orc Lair, but you will have two Rangers to try and find the trail.
The mounts that can handle the trail we will be taking are few. Only the sturdy mountain ponies. Gimli is loaning one to Merry and plans to lead another. He plans to haulback some loot on it.
The knights were not going with you, the party is scouting in strength and must needs be prepared to leave fast if the danger looks to high. The knights are not well suited to mountain fighting. Some are garbed in plate and banded.
Ornan is willing to go and his armor was lighter. Merry, Gimli and Prince Caramir are going.
The night moves along until 2am when Gil-Gandel sights a goblin scout trying to sneak up on the camp.
I’ll try a counter-sneak - alert the person nearest me without making it too obvious to our goblin friend that I’ve done so, slip out of sight and, as the camp starts to rouse, get on the tail of the goblin as he pulls out. Follow at a discreet distance.
Thanks for that. Presumably I can use Goodberries to feed animals?
If Ghân did manage to Animal Friend it, how would it travel during the day?
In any case Ghân speaks to the Owl and offers it a Goodberry. He asks the Owl about who lives in the forest nearby.
As Moose is nimble like a goat, presumably he can come?
If Ghân notices this, and the Owl is still around, he will speak to the Owl and ask if it would be kind enough to follow the goblin and elf, then return and tell me what happens.
(Assuming the Owl likes Goodberries, they will be the reward.)
