But hobbits are fattening - think of all the fried second breakfasts they eat!
I rather like Fluffy too.
Ghân tries his best to look menacing: “You probably like being healed too…”
Good point, then you had better tell Fluffy, sorry, Grrr, Fang that I could probably eat him far faster than he could eat me, with room for leftovers.
Nope: still prefer Fluffy.
Brin holds out a hand for Fluffy to sniff, hoping to be acknowledged as friendly. If acknowledged as friendly, Brin will scratch behind Fluffy’s ear and pat his flank (if acknowledged as unfriendly, Brin will make sure all his fingers are still intact).
“His ability to track a scent should well compliment my own abilities to spot the signs of passage. I’m no Ranger, but together we might come close.”
Gwaelur has a slightly irrational fear of dogs in general and wolves in particular, and is uneasy about the whole prospect of traveling with a wolf. He trusts Ghan though and has come to know his judgment in all things woodland is generally sound. This does not stop him from staying just a bit of distance away from fluffy. He does find the name comforting though.

You’d never get the apple in his mouth quick enough.

You prefer Fluffy, huh? Kill, Fang!
The Wolf somehow senses that **Brin ** is mocking him and gives a low growl.
The company moves at a steady pace and about 2 miles from the gates is greeted by another company with wagons, snacks and one Lady in gray raiment and a younger woman in white.
The Lady greets the group, “I am **Atheniel ** and I am of the Healing Order of Estë. I have ridden out from the House of Healing to aid those injured. Who is in need of help?”
She is pleased and surprised that at this point, it is only the Uruk and the Wolf that are in any major need. She compliments Ghân on his work. She attended to the wolf first, using a low singsong and after about seven minutes, the wolf is fine and licking her face.
She then goes to the Uruk, she asks that he be loosened a bit and place on a blanket she supplies. “This one is running a fever and his body is breaking down. In a surprisingly harsh voice she commands him to “SLEEP” and while rubbing his temples. The Uruk lays still. She spends 7 minutes working on this patient and then uses another spell after that. The Orc looks considerably better. “Please load him gently into the wagon. I have administered a soporific that should leave him out for no less than 2 hours.” She was assisted by the girl in white, who was never introduces.
Lady Atheniel, “Congratulations on your success. You have performed a great service for Minas Tirith and Rohan and the family you rescued is fine. The father should be released in a few days.”
Thoroncir gives a start as he recognizes the girl in white.
Ghân thanks Brin for his gesture of acceptance. He advises him that patting is for dogs named … Fluffy  .
Speaking to Fang, Ghân explains that another member of the pack wishes to introduce himself. He suggests that Fang make a suitable noise of respect - and advises Brin to stand back a little and brandish a weapon in salute.
“Your thoughtful words are welcome. We three can track for the party, under your guidance.”
"Keep calling Fang ‘Fluffy’ and you **will ** have something to worry about.
You are a brave fighter, always at the front. Fang will guard the casters in the middle of the party."
Hopefully now sorted.
Ghân thanks the Lady and watches closely how she administered healing.
(He is quietly interested in Thoroncir’s reaction…)
He’ll always be Fluffy in thought, if not ever voiced again. Of course, given post 808, he’s probably earned the name Fang. Lucky wolf. He moves fast.

I like the name “Fang.” “Fluffy” reminds of a Stephen King story about a toothy monster with that incongruous name, and of course the three-headed Cerberus-like giant guard dog of the first Harry Potter story was named Fluffy. Fang is much better.
What Exit?, is the younger woman in white none other than the Princess Gilraen, lissome second daughter of the King? Be still, my heart!
Thoroncir hesitantly says to Ghan and Deor, well outside of Fang’s hearing, “Tell me, is it possible that the wolf is a spy for some evil but far-seeing mage, and that the spell by which you befriended it has not fully taken hold? Perhaps I worry overmuch, but I have no experience with wolves, and have heard fell tales of them.”
You will do well!
I admire your caution.
If it is a Mage in disguise, he speaks Wolf  .
I will cast Detect Magic on Fang (my last 1st level spell of the day!) - there should only be my own spell upon him…
Indeed.
She sees you startle and gives you a pleading looking as if saying, “please say nothing to the others.”
Fang has no other magics then your own Ghân.
Ah, not so much an NPC as a walking plot device, then.
Thoroncir will nod subtly to Gilraen as if to say, I understand; fear not, your secret is safe with me. He will then bow to Atheniel and say, “Well met, my lady, and thank you for your assistance to our party. You and your assistant are most welcome.”
Oh, I have no doubt that it’s really a wolf. I just wondered if he had been purposefully set in our path so that he could join our party, to see what we’re doing and either report back to some Superpowerful Evil Bad Guy or to permit said SEBG to see through his eyes (as Saruman seemed to be doing with Theoden in the movie LOTR). I know, I’m probably just being paranoid. No biggie.
Why do you want us to kill Fang?
I thought DM was more of a yes/no answer, with maybe a hint as to the power of the spell. Does it also tell school, or number of different enchantments?
He could tell that it was only his enchantment. This would not have worked with anyone else’s.
